I just replace two Dynomax mufflers with only 13 thousand miles on them. It sounded like rocks in a tin can, kinda disappointing. The out side looked brand new, not sure why this would happen?

Seems to me that just about every product may have even a small percentage of defects.

Do you intend to cut them open for a show n tell?
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I was hoping the same thing. My guess would be the perforated tube broke loose from the case.

I returned them and got two new ones, no charge!  :2thumbs:

I've been using the walker/dynomax mufflers for over 25 years.  I like their sound, fit and performance.  That said, they are cheaply made IMO, and change them out every few years.  Twice I've had them fail internally, and it really shows on the time slip.

I have a pair of welded dynomax to go on, never used them before, how have they failed Russ.

17747 and 1733 Super Turbo, I'm pretty sure. Maybe two 17747 failed and a 17733, but noticed the rattle and changed it out before running at the track.  Never took them apart.  One time I replaced them after loosing the characteristic 3 - 4 mph and nothing was rattling loose like usual.  I have the Ultra Flows now, and arguably there is probably nothing to fail on them, but I'll still replace the next go around.

Right - looking at the ultraflow 17219's  I have, they seem well constructed to me, I doubt they would build enough pressure to blow out with the straight through design. I have always run turbos before with no issues, although mostly street use.

A failure on the ultraflos would most likely bethe tube weld cracking and rattling. For them to become a restrictjon would be very interesting to see.

I had a 17230 fail but I don't know how many miles were on it and I didn't cut it open.  It rattled pretty a badly.
