Since the numbers were taken years ago, the hulk is evidence to the crime.

If this evidence helps convict someone, then the hulk is priceless. 

How do you know they were removed to facilitate a crime.?
Ever stop to think maybe they were removed to prevent said numbers from ever appearing on another car. ?
