Well, actually its more of a patch job til I can afford to buy a new one or two. Is the transmission harness part of the main engine harness? Mine is :-\ If you have not seen my first post about this, here it is; http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,12308.0.html

Anyway, Anyone now what is in the pics?

This looks like a relay of some sort? It is from the firewall near the ECU. It is also in the harness that goes to the transmission.



The bottom black and dark blue wires you see that were cut off, they are in the harness that goes to the transmission. Were those maybe air conditioning wires? They were laying across the top of my engine in the main harness when I undid the crap redo job.


This must be for air conditioning too? Also just lying on top of the motor when I got the car.

It certainly looks some related with A/C since green wire is the blower source and blue is wire that goes to dryer presostatic valve and from there to compressor clutch... but RIGHT NOW i HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE HELL IS...

Blower and Compressor wires use the same transmission plug, terminals goes inserted there up to 73 as far I know and were changed to a grommet on firewall on 74 since interlock needs more wires up to engine bay, but I'm lost right now on that device with button.

OK I THINK I FOUND IT!!! it looks is an emission control system... I'll post diagrams when I find a scaner or a website...

I found on a A body diagram something like that but plugs and colors didn't match with your ones... but found a C body diagram with same plugs... INCLUDING THE WEIRD BALLAST PLUG...

maybe that harness was from a C body donor and that's why you have also the 4 prongs plug in the middle of engine harness up to front of engine.

I was guessing it could be some emission controls related BUT THEY WEREN'T EQUIPED ON CHARGERS and to much less on 72, MAYBE JUST SINCE 73 but even in that way... that drove me some mad.

Does your car has speed cruise control ?... is part of that system

No John, I confirmed, is a control emission unit that controls a solenoid, probably an iddle solenoid that works together with speed cruise control system...

I'll post diagrams ASAP... but is a C body equipment

Pete,  I have never seen that Thinga-ma-bob on any of the 20+ 3rd gens i have owned.  Is your car electronic or points ignition? I might be able to help. I wasnt holding out on ya, I happened to pick up 2 72 charger engine harnesses this past saturday.

My car had a electronic ignition from the factory. If the "relay" thingy is not a original thing for a Charger. Someone went through some work to mount it. There is a round hole in my firewall for it too.

While its not impossible, it seems unusual that someone would go to the trouble of cutting a round hole in the firewall for it.

That could be possable. Arizona is next door so it is possable the car was originally bought in Cali. then the owners moved to Arizona, or The dealer needed one with the options requested, and they found one in Cali.  :shruggy:

my car came from california also,and has that same weird thing on the firewall-i was going to take it off when i paint the engine bay-must be for the emissions

Now we know is a C body and Calif emissions car LOL...

I'll check for emission controls vacuum hoses to compare.

here is the C body wiring diagram... I guess is 70-71 because doesn't appears the ECU module...

look at red box I made... there is that weird wiring you have on your car

Andy... an engine bay pic from your car will be nice :D, specially passenger engine side ;)

what is and where the hell is locate that "speed switch" labeled on diagram...

My car does it have an iddle solenoid but it looks to be to close throtles once you starts off the engine to save from diesel runs ( sp ?), anyway is just one wire solenoid... I have seen some several iddle solenoids that are vacuum operated with some electrical feedback... I think two wires, but those are for very lates 70s carburators ( TQs )

These are the only diagrams I could find about some kind of emissions solenoid but doesn't looks to be located on front of engine like wiring lenght looks to be:
