Gene I wasn't pointing my comment at you or at Dave, or at John, or anyone that i know personally. Just a genralization. To the people who buying them now. Not all of the people who are buying them now are, but I'd say the majority is.

I guess generalizations aren't good, well I shouldn't say guess, as I know any kinds of stereotypes aren't good.

tongue in cheek? Hmmm, I tend to let mine hang out a lot when thinking about aero cars. My wife says I talk about them more than anything else.

Anyone else already going crazy waiting on the Cars movie to come out? I've already bought my son 9 books about the movie. As well as hats, and t shirts, and even a set of shoes with the Superbird on them.

Not crazy but I am looking forward to it.  Finally there'll be a car movie the family will watch with me.  They likely thought the same thing about the Love Bug remake but after Lindsay Lohan passed on the Charger for the VW, I left them to watch the rest on their own.

I didn't even try to watch the Love Bug movie, but I'm going to definately see the Cars movie. Bought my boy 2 more books this morning for the movie. These have magnets in the shapes of the characters in the movie. So now he has a Superbird magnet, and a magnadoodle that has a superbird on it.

An average shop hourly rate is between $35 and $40 / hour (sometimes much more, depending on where you're at), so it adds up fast.  Plus parts, materials, and subcontracted detail/finish work.  It all depends on the car's condition to start with, how many parts can be re-used or refurbished, and to what level the car is restored.  IMHO, too many variables for a simple answer, sorry.

To give a ball park figure, I'd say around $75-85,000. Just a simple guess. But like Gene said it all depends on variables, like amounts of body work, the actual shop doing the work. How much of it is farmed out to another shop, and how many parts can just be cleaned up and reused.

I was going to say you wouldn't get change back from a 100,000 dollar bill but it depends on the shop too.

I would say you would drop $100K if it was at Aloha or at maybe Totally Auto or Roger Gibson. But there are some other places that do top shelf work too, that aren't that pricey.

I was thinking of RM as an example but they are to pre-war classics what Gibson is to Mopar musclecars.  You win a few ribbons at Pebble Beach or the Mopar Nationals and people start banging on the door.

There are some smaller restoration shops that are doing incredible jobs on these cars too. If I had the money to restore my 500 I can only think of a few places that I'd want to do the work. However I do have some money but rather than restore this car to OEM specs I'm looking for another car instead.

Oh I agree 100% and I wasn't bragging the other places up so much as pointing out that the price rises with national recognition.  It doesn't mean they are actually any better obviously, just better known.

To me it does mean they are good though. If a place is nationally recognized that means they have done excellent work in the past that has garnered some recognition at a national stage. Which sometimes its like my dad always said 'you get what you pay for". Sometimes its just a name your paying for, other times its quality work.

What are you trying to compare on those two cars Dave? Other than both being Hemi cars that were at Carlisle on various years.

Similar in color both came from MI area near close vins.Pure coincedence .Maybe same dealer
