K&K ran an "SE" at the 1975 Daytona 500

I guess the thinking was the louvers would help keep air out of the car.
Less air in = faster.  Down side was you had to use the flat hood, as it was part of the SE package.
Less room for a carb spacer, or taller breather.

Petty ran the Rallye package, with a bubble hood and regular 1/4 window opening.

Note the differences in the lower front valance between the Chargers.
Also, the "Petty flair", lower 1/4, in front of the rear tire.

Petty's Charger looks a little lower, IMO.
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

When you look at the lettering on the tires and the fender opening Petty's Charger looks lower.
Also when you look back at the #71 in line the front tires look like they are farther out and closer to the fender?

Man I can't wait to get my 71 car done! That is some inspiration!

Was that the last Charger that K&K ran?

Those K&K cars are a big influence for me. To me, that's the ideal profile and stance for a restomod/protouring charger, and that includes their fender openings crossing the belt line.

1976.  Then got some $$ from Jim Stacy and Neil Bonnet drove the same cars, painted white, re-numbered "5" in 1977.
Cars reskinned as Magnums for '78.  Had some funding from Armor All.
