How to install fuel filler neck/tube in '71?

Anyone have any tips for installing a fuel neck in a '71? I've confirmed I have the correct grommet... but with the bend in the tube, I can't seem to get the thing started.

Did you try any sort of lubrication?

Yer lube it up, however I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Disconnect your wiring and only 8 very accessible bolts and the whole bumper assembly comes off if you are still having a problem.

Thanks for the responses. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't one of those things that seems ridiculously straight forward, but then I realize half way through I did a major no no. Anyway everything was already off... was actually putting the rear valance back and that's when I thought hey... I should put the filler neck in before this...
Anyway, some spray lube and wheaties... about try number 12 it finally started.
