Hey guys, if the switch is bad, would it get hot at the connector? I noticed right where the green wire goes into the headlamp switch terminal, the black connector gets a bit hot and has distorted the connector in that spot...

Thoughts?

Ghoste

If its hot enough to distort plastic, there is a problem of some kind.  Did you check the connection for corrosion?  The green death has killed many.

uh oh..green death, I suspect you mean that wire..oh boy...I hate to hack the end of that wire off and put a new terminal on it but if I have to then I have to.

:rotz: NO... corrosion is GREEN, not the wire !!

That said, is the wire hard and not pliable like it should be.. hell that didn't sound good... if it's hard you need to cut it off until you have good wire.   :icon_smile_big:

Green wire, and I don't see any green corrosion at all, the wire does seem slightly stressed though but not dry rotted. I ordered a new switch, maybe I should try and get that spade out of the connector housing and cut it back a few inches and splice in a new one...
Do you happen to know what gauge wire that is?

birdsandbees

Too light like every wire in an old Dodge. Probably 18, maybe 16 but will be the same connector for either.

Wait!

Get a bottle of Balsamic Vinegar, stir in a handful of table salt.

Dip the offending connector, use a Q-tip to apply to the spade on the switch. Watch the magic.

After a minute or three, rinse in clean water, then mix a bit of baking soda in water and re-rinse to neutralize any remaining acid.

Apply silicone grease and drive on.

Well now....I am going to give that a shot today!!  Thanks for the info!

I replaced the switch and checked to see if it was hot..and after about 2 or 3 min it was very slightly warm when the lights were on....is that normal?
On a side note, I saw some green corrosion on one of the terminals on the old switch...

Note, green is location of corrosion..not actual corrosion lol
