Hello everyone, first time poster, long time lurker. A little bit about me, I'm 29 years old, currently deployed to Afghanistan (Reservist, 49 more days till I come home!!). After a long time of saving money, I'm in a good position in life to finally purchase the car I've always wanted...a 1968 Dodge Charger. I figured I'll still have a decent amount of money left from the deployment after I buy the car and I'll just go back to my job when I get home...so it's not like I'll be broke after I buy the car...that's my way of justifying it  :icon_smile_big:

Anyway, on to the car I've been looking at...1968 Charger (not a true R/T)...440 pistol grip 4spd, new power disk brakes, new power rack & pinion steering, Dana 60 w 4:10 posi, purple stripe cam, new brake lines. Solid body, excellent black interior. The seller was originally asking for 50k, I was able to bring it down to 45. I fell in love with the car as soon as I saw the pictures. The seller sent me some videos and man it sounds amazing. The car is not perfect, it needs minor work, new rear tires, tic toc tach not working, radio needs to be hooked up. By the way the seller has been great. He's been answering all my questions, and we are supposed to have a facetime chat/ car walk around here in the next few days.

Here are some pictures of the car. Please be honest and let me know what you think. Thanks everyone.

Sorry, I don't know why the first two picture came out upside down, let me try again.

This is a tough time to buy a second generation Charger. The car looks like a driver quality restoration, I  like the color.  What concerns me is the body work on the bottom of the rear quarters and rear valence corners.  They are not correct in fit and appearance. The grille and front bumper fitment is off too. My other concern is that the car has a lot of aftermarket parts, not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but I would be prepared to do a lot of sorting out stuff to get the car to your liking. You should always have someone who is familiar with second generation Chargers do an inspection of the car before buying it.

To the OP; Thank you for your service!   :2thumbs:

First of all, thank you for your service.
It's tough to get a useful answer on a forum because there are always some matching numbers/factory stock geeks that will say that any car that isn't the way it left the factory, is a turd.
I noticed right away that on the car in your pictures the rear valance corner seams are filled in and the grill doesn't sit right.
It's best to take someone that knows second generation chargers with you when you go look at the car.

There's something really weird going on with the grill and front bumper. Hard to say exactly what, when looking at it with my phone, but it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Good Chargers for a good price sell fast with out any extra effort on the sellers part

So why has it not sold before you found it from a long ways away ??

Maybe it is not worth $50000 ( why it has not sold locally)
Maybe it really is not even worth $45000

If you have that much cash burning a hole in your pocket I am sure you could find something you could see for your self when you get home

Agreed!  That car needs a good looking over before dropping 45K on it.  That front bumper almost looks like it's straight rather than pointed.  Hell, I'd let mine go for 45.

Ok, take a look this car.

Bondo...

And as others have said, the front bumper is off.

I would ask for a whole lot more photos. Door jambs, fender to door, all that.

If you really want a Charger, put it in the Wanted section, that'd how I got mine. I got a lead on three nice Chargers, all under $30K. Wish I could buy them all!

Thank you all for you replies. I'm going to take your advice and not pull the trigger on this one just quite yet. I'll also be making a thread in the "wanted" section as Polygon stated. Thanks again everyone.

If you'd like, I'm local to that car. I can take a closer look at it for you if you'd like.

Thanks for your service.

Fixed it for you.

Like others said there are better deals out there than this.
