Noisy rear gears - 8 3/4 741 case plus other questions

In contrast to the other similarly titled thread going on, my gears howl when on the gas but are quiet as a mouse when off the gas- any thoughts on where to start looking for issues. New gears are in the works somewhere down the line as current  ones are very low ( 4500 rpm at 70mph) as well as noisy. With that being said, Once upon a time a long time ago, Richmond were a recommended gear-set manufacturer- what is a reputable brand these days? And will the 741 hang in there to subject  to minor abuse ( no real craziness but  likely drag strip w/o slicks)?

The howling is the way the gears are setup, which is incorrect.
