Does anyone know what this is worth?

Alaskan_TA

No clue on value, but it is an awesome find!

Do you have any more photos of it?

Damn that is cool.
What do you think its worth?

Know somebody with a museum?   Whatever they're willing to pay...   :shruggy:

Otherwise...  I'd imagine the intake and carbs are good for a few $$$.     The rest is whatever used parts bring   :scratchchin:   The block and 1 head is scrap.

Look up old auto shows on the 'net.
MoPar had a bunch of cutaways all through the 60s.
They were more common than you think!

Very cool find. We actually make them here all of the time for GM, Ford & Chrysler etc with functional 12V motors to keep them turning over at the Auto Shows, SEMA, etc. Too bad they are all newer LS & Mod Motor/Coyote junk though.

DixieRestoParts

I recommend you post that in the WIW section on Moparts. I believe there are a couple of big time memorabilia collectors over there that can give you a pretty good idea. I'm no expert, but I think it's worth north of $10K as a collectible once restored.

Curious, who's We & where's Here?  LEON.

A12 Superbee

If it's Bubba's home version of a cut down then it's worth very little, whatever the salvageable parts are worth. As a functioning/rotating display if it could be done, then maybe a little more than the parts.

If it's a genuine Chrysler made cut down display for advertising/display at car shows in the 60's and 70's with provenance, then it's worth several thousand, maybe around $5-7K US but definitely not silly money like double figures.

I don't ever recall Chrysler having a perfectly squared cut away like that.  I mean, whats to hold the pistons in place?

I saw a blue flame Corvette engine as a factory cutaway like that - went for $8,500

Was it at a Tupperware party?

According to MCG, a deal was cut early on to sell to Tim Wellborn, even though others made higher offers.

TheAutoArchaeologist

Yup, going to be fully restored here shortly.

GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

TheAutoArchaeologist

It's not bad, but it's got some rough edges and doesn't spin anymore.  So Tim wants it to be like the other ones he has, fully restored and fully operational.

resq302

so how does the half open pistons stay in place without falling out when its moving?

;)

If I remember right, the engine actually spins on the central vertical shaft, not the internals.

Still sad if all the original paint & patina goes away.

TheAutoArchaeologist

It's been messed with in the past, so it isn't completely original.  And the actual pistons go up and down.  Well, the Hemi ones Tim has do rotate.  I do not know how they keep things all together.  There is a small electric motor in the starter usually to make the whole thing move.  I have a video somewhere of the SS Hemi one he has rotating I will try to dig up.

resq302

I thought it not only spun around but also had the internals move too.

It looks perfectly awesome just as it is.

Would be nice kept as a survivor.
If restored, it joins the ranks of all the other restored examples in existence!

That was always my understanding.  The Hemi ones I have seen did both.

I would think if they didn't actually take half of the cylinder off the side (remove say 40%?) that would be enough to keep the pistons hooked in the bore.  Just a guess.

Agreed on leaving it as-is, way cooler than restored. Even if not original now, still has a nice patina which gives it a feel of authenticity.

Apparently, a lot.   $100,000. perhaps, based on the Juliano engine that just sold today.   :shruggy: :shruggy: :shruggy:

The 440-6 at Wellborns is still untouched.  And might remain that way for the foreseeable future.
