Johnny Rotten did me wrong!

After a busy day here (bank, dentist, yardwork, teenager) I needed a break. The dog usually gets her stroll about 5-ish so we headed for the dog park in the '68 (which I'd already had out earlier, so it was convenient for a change). After listening to the local oldies station for a bit, the bubble-gum stuff was really getting to me, so I reached for something different.  This band was pretty hot when I was a sophomore in college way back when, so....to get the complete opposite of "bubble-gum" I slipped it in.  With "God Save the Queen" wailing in the inimitable 8-track way we rolled on down the road. I was just remembering a certain co-ed (with an alcohol problem and somewhat-questionable morals) when the warbling sound of a dying tape deck interrupted my reverie.  Dang it(!), I think the drive belt is all done.  Who fixes these things anymore?  The last guy to service this deck expired back at the end of the 20th Century.

I had my 8 track repaired by Barry at Barry's 8 track. He also added a jack for a phone or ipod, as well as amp inputs.

I saw the Pistols live in 77 or 78...Sid Vicious died in Feb 79 if memory serves so it was definitely before then! Was one of the most extreme and to be honest unpleasant gigs I ever attended. Nice to say I was there though! Music was good and the crowd were wild!

Truth.

Also, I clicked the link and promptly had an epileptic fit.

alfaitalia: The SexPistols were the musical counterweight to all that disco crap we had to put up with in the 70s.  Extreme? No question.  Raw, frenetic, unbridaled, course, & even vulgar, but....just what was needed at the time. I might add that the 8-track version of their "Bollocks" record was the most valuable (& even collectable?) 8-track you could find about 15-years ago. Not so sure about that now.

Spot on! The Pistols greatest hits CD is in my car now!!..... I was never a huge punk fan (Metal and heavy rock was/is my thing) but loved live gigs and the energy was always high at a punk gig. And the wall of sound you get at a metal gig was almost equalled by a good punk. band. Crass gigs were nearly as mad! Just annoys me that bands like Green Day and other US bands now use the word "punk" to describe their music......its good rock and roll.....but it certainly aint my definition of punk!

THESE are punk bands....pick a few out and take a listen.....just make sure Granny is not in earshot!!! Just got to ignore the racist overtones to some of it.....sadly it was a sign of the times in 70s UK.

Granny? Hell....that's my wife.  The Punk Rockers didn't last very long (who could, living like that?) but they saved us from all the other crap music and ushered in most of the later New Wave stuff which finally paid attention to the critical components of good 60s Rock.  You know, melody, backbeat, harmonies, & good guitar riffs. The rest is history.  What I'm hearing now at work (w/ lots of 20-somethings) is a mix of awful (techno, chick-shit) and some that's all-right. They even seem to appreciate good country (which is a shock to me), but...hey! It is nice to have options, eh?

Ever heard Greta Van Fleet's "Black Smoke Rising"?

"The world's most recommended 8 track technician" . Is there even another one, as a point of reference?  :smilielol:

How the mighty fell. That said, the Pistols are one of my favorite bands, but I'm kinda glad they imploded at their peak.

Zeppelin and/or Rush.  Ripping-off seems a bit unkind. They've clearly been influenced by Led Zeppelin. No matter, they sound one-hell of a lot better to me than Justin Beiber or that chick with all the hair in her face.  It's new music that doesn't make me want to retch.

The more I matured, the more I started enjoying good music based on its merits and on the craftsmanship behind it, rather than dismissing it out of hand because of who the singer is or what radio station is playing it. Sia (chick w hair in her face) is actually a super talented songwriter...it takes something special to come up w/ those melodies. A great song can be found anywhere, do yourself a favor and enjoy it when you find one.

Except modern country. that shit sucks.
