Has anyone replaced there tranny with a Tremec TKO 5 speed 600.  If so there is 3 spots to mount the shift were does it go in a 1969 b body with a console.  Thanks for any replies.  The reason I ask is that I might be purchasing one from a guy that had the last (rear) shift postion shaved down and now does not work.  The picture shows the centre position.

Looks to me like there is only one spot to mount the shifter....all those top plates are different

The shifter for a 68-70 B body is located on this boss of the TKO, keep in mind this will exit the transmission tunnel in it's centerline, not offset to the driver's side like factory, so if your doing a benchseat shifter it will not be in the factory location, you can get it close with an adapter

The console shifter application has an offset bracket for the shifter that allows it to fit in the factory location in the console, you cannot use a FACTORY shifter for the TKO 68-70 B body application, you'll need to contact one of the TKO kit mfg's for there retrofited version of a repro factory shifter that's correct for your application

Here's some pics, although my Charger is a 70, the TKO is the same for 68-70 application, just the shifter is different, my shifter uses the factory location on a 4spd console

I mentioned earlier in another thread that personally I would pass on that used TKO your considering, it's appears to be an American Powertrain unit, and IMHO is not the best offering on the market, and being used, you have no recourse with the mfg should you develop or find an issue, with  something like this purchase your better off new IMHO, sure it's expensive... but your still short on some pieces you'll need for the conversion, that's why I recommended Silver Sport Transmissions, one stop shop, ALL the components you need, a 3 yr warranty on the transmission and the best/latest evolution of the TKO application for your vehicle, they even have a payment plan if you need it?
