That's pretty cool! Something about those steam engines that makes them so awesome. Steam engines always made those locomotives look like they were alive, like an animal or beast or something!

UP Challenger 3985 came to my town last year, I hope I never tire of seeing/hearing steam locomotives.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Several years ago I was able to climb up in the cab of the UP Big Boy #4006 that's on display at the Museum of Transportation  in St. Louis.  I sat there in awe, hand on the throttle, staring out along the side of that HUGE boiler imagining the power this beast once had...something I'll never forget, steam engines are awesome machines :coolgleamA:

Do you ever see any old diesels like this one?

Something about them is just so pretty to me...

Yep,the old "F" units were pretty cool as far as diesels go. Santa Fe had a good looking paint scheme on these:

Old covered wagons.    The UP has a set of F units they run around also.   I hear the old guys talk about walking thru the engine room of those F's back in the day. I guess technology wasnt real good yet and it was not uncommon to have a turbo or diesel come apart and throw parts. Not a good thing to happen when you were walking thru one.

The old Steamer sure has got this town fired up today.   Its the buzz around here and we had way more people show up to see it then expected and way more then any of the other towns it has stopped at in Kansas here. I did get to climb up in it and check it out.  It was pretty quite inside sitting there but it would let out a big deep breath every once in a while and it was very warm inside. You could really feel the heat radiatiing back on you.

The real iron horse!  Nothing like it out there now. Its a machine but the thing seemed to be alive.  Very cool to see!  I recommend to anyone to go see a big railroad steam engine if you get the chance.  Its a lot different then the small excursion steamers that putt around Colorado and other areas.

Keep checking the link! I am getting pictures from other people and putting them on-line as well!

I am getting pictures from other people tonight so theres new ones to look at online!

The above photo is it outside of town pulling the hill. Kansas is flat but we do have a small hill that will slow trains down when going west bound.

This is it leaving the city. My friend got a good picture of it without a ton of people all around it. Good clean photo!

Very cool! Thanks for sharing the pics.  I like the story behind the engine:
