im new to this site. i have a few weight related questions. when ppl say that a charger weights in avarage 3600 lbs it confuses me because my friends charger sais it weights like 5600 lbs on the door. TIA

Ghoste

Me too.  That's heavy even if it were an 06.

I think 3900 is about average for a 440 2nd gen with no lightening. Shipping weights vary a few hundred pounds depending on options. I think a sb would weigh about 3600lbs.

its a 73 charger se 318. my old honda prelude said it weighted as much as a charger and it was a unibody. sorry for the off topic comment but it really concerned me since to think that a small car could weight as much. thanx !

ther is weight as it sits & GVW - gross vehicle weight with max load , the sticker has GVW weight
most 68-70 are 3600-3900 depending on options , earlier 66-67 weight more at close to 4000

73Charger

I have a 73 as well, and figured it is around 4000 #s but never knew for sure either since the sticker is for including people, and I don't know how many pounds those suposed people were supposed to be or how many passengers it was for - 4 or 5 or 6
BTW - My wife has a 2000 Prelude and it is pretty heavy for a "little car" Is it coinsidence that both our cars run around the same 1/4 mile times?  Both have small rear gears stock and her prelude was rated around 200hp I think. I think the 318 setup I have is a little more but all I have to go on is my 1/4 mile mph

It has to be a misprint of some kind.

ya, a 2000 prelude has a 2.2 l motor with 2000hp and 156lbs tq. thats the american version. the japanesse version is almost 221hp and 195lbs tq. same 2.2L.just a quck fact ;D. ok back ti the theme. i got a good picture of what i mean. in this case i took a pic of the lightest civic hatchback honda ever made as in example. (not a crx)

i know for a fact that this car doasent weigh anywhere close to 3020lbs. but that is the gross weight. but then if you look closely if you add the numbers to the right of the 3020lbs you are gonna come up close to 3020lbs. so i dont think it really tells you any weight of the car by it self just sittin there. im confused ??? ??? ???

The numbers to the right of it are front and rear.  What the gvwr is telling you is the maximum amount of weight the vehicle can legally carry.  For example, in your tag it indicates 1480 lbs over the rear wheels.  If you stuff 2000 lbs of whatever in the trunk, you can be fined for exceeding the weight limitations of the vehicle.  Does that make sense?

o ok. ya it make sence. thanx for solimg that issue for me!

Ghoste

I should also point out that in the example I gave, that 1480 lbs limitation includes the weight of the vehicle itself.  So my 2000 lbs in the trunk would be way more than just 520 lbs over.
