so I started getting a really bad rattling out of my driver's side exhaust and a couple guys said it sounded like a loose bafflel in the muffler.  I jacked up the car and found out the shop that replace my exhaust system 2 years ago put on 2 1/4" pipes from manifold to tail pipe.

On top of that, my buddy said the mufflers were put on back wards - the "A" side was facing the tail pipe and the "B" side is facing the manifold.

is the muffler installed backwards?
will driving my Charger like this screw up the newly rebuilt engine at all?

I'm wondering how long I should take to replace the whole damn exhaust system again to 2 1/2"

let me know what you think

thanks!

I called an exhaust system shop today and they said 2 1/4" pipes is stock for a 72 Charger with 440 HP - I thought stock was 2 1/2" pipes

does anybody know?  I could find the specs in my shop manual

Those sound like universal fit mufflers.  They work in both directions.   Some applications have the A at the front while others will have the B in front.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

2-1/4in would be the size of pipes that came stock. Some big blocks after 71 came with 2in pipes.

thanks for the replies, guys

looks like I only have to replace the mufflers because of the baffels instead of the whole exhaust system

sometime down the road I will replace everything for a nice mandrel bent 2 1/2" system for better flow

thanks again
