Backside of Glove box door finishing

How come the back of most of the glove box doors look like this?  How do other members make it look nice?  Do you scrape all that old glue/foam off the backside and repaint?  I thought about just covering with material like the glove box is made of.  Not looking for concourse.  Any ideas?

It looks like that from the factory. You'll never see it once installed because it flips upwards when opening it.
