Which motor mount??

Hi,

So i have 68 charger, originally small block, now with 383. My passenger side engine mount is out the door. I bought one for 383 on summitracing, and recently had the car at the shop, so i asked them to swap it out. They told me the mount looks about right, but doesnt fit (due to some nipple thats missing). They didnt give me much more.

Any ideas what mount id need?

Just a thought: i bought the car fairly restored, so i figured that the mount broke a bit because its just a bit weak, however, i dont have any engine vibrations and the only way u can tell its broke is if u give it gas and brake at the same time, the engine will move. Can i just throw a chain on the mount to keep it from jumping out?

Here's a good read on broken motor mounts and a cheap fix to prevent future breaks.  Some people do run a chain, but it doesn't look great imo.  I would still replace it, if you opted for a chain.  You can get cheap mounts at most local auto parts stores and add the bolts suggested in the fix.  There is a pic on page 2 showing the nipple/stubby pin.  I don't see how it wouldn't fit just because it was missing.  Maybe they meant it didn't fit the application.  It could possibly twist without the nipple/pin to align it.

Normally it's the drivers side that will let go. I wouldn't be concerned  about any reinforcement on the passenger side, a stock mount will do the trick. I have two grade 8 bolts through the drivers side mount and a stock mount on the passengers side, never had an issue. The mount should have a locator nipple on it, which mount did you buy.

Justcruzin is right. All the engine torque pulls the driver's side mount apart. I had it happen on my old 71/383. I would just buy a new set of mounts, modify the driver side, replace them both and be done with it. Unless your driver side is new, then just do the modification to it. I have done it to both my 440 motors.

Definitely modify the stock mount with the countersunk bolts. I did that with my 512ci. and it works great. I had purchased the urethane mounts and I'm glad I didn't use them. I'm happy to have found out how to modify the stock mounts on this site.

Guys, id appreciate a link to the correct mount that id need... cause the one i bought on summit racing for a 68 charger 383 is the wrong one.

I don't think there is anything special about the motor mounts (like the one pictured for anchor industries 2250 by summit). I wonder if the pin (dimple) is simply for lining things up, and if it could be installed without it.

I am using one solid mount (Moroso 62520) on the driver's side because that one breaks, but I like the countersunk bolt version that is described in http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,13216.0.html.

I have no clue on what I am about to suggest.  Is it possible the K frame you have is different and you have some type of strange mount?
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

they said they couldn't fit it. Unfortunately, they asked me to drop the car off (cause I needed to get my kickdown cable installed and idler arm replaced), so they just told me it didn't fit and they couldn't make it fit... idler arm didn't fit either (though after further inspection, it didn't even need replacement), and they didn't get to my kickdown cable... nyc shops, eh.. So now I want to try and do it myself, but i'd like to have the right parts.

You wouldn't have seen it. I only saw it because I hadn't chosen a car yet. Even though the link says "1969 Charger" it doesn't filter the products until you choose a vehicle *in your browser* (which you had already done but no one else viewing the link had).

Guys.... perhaps i was told wrong, so maybe its supposed to be without dimple. I just looked at the one i gave them, its the 2250 part from summit, and it does have a pimple. Which would be the part without it?
