Hi,
Thought you might like to see my charger from when I found it to where it is today. As CB knows it takes a lot of cash to fix the hidden stuff. everything has been rebuilt and the color is back to original. It will go get the interior and vinyl top next week, and then it will be blocked down and repainted. The engine is the original 440 HP but I changed the rearend to a Strange 60 with 373 gears.

Thanks 69 rt

69 rt

Thanks for the nice comments, I am very pleased with the work so far. The engine was rebuilt by a engine builder in Altoona PA, and as of now has not been fired up, so I am waiting for it to come out of the upholstery shop, and for the painter to finish his final sanding and then he will again paint the car with more of the Q-5 color. After that it's putting everything back together. Almost everything on the car including rebuilding the front end with P.S.T Polygraphite bushings is new. I still have to find a grille as mine is missing a small piece in the center. The exhaust is on it's way from Tube Technologies with dynomax mufflers.

I am wondering about the size tires to put under it, I want Red lines but my wheels are 14 inch and I would like them to be a little wider than stock. Any Ideas?

Well the door bell is ringing, must be another shipment from the Padock or Year one. I hope after spending my kids inheritance one of these two companies will at least send me one of those PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH signs

Q5 - thats "Seafoam turqouise metallic" isn't it?...
Or is that the Plymouth name?

Limey,  you had it right - "Seafoam Turquoise Metallic" is indeed the Plymouth name for Q5.  Dodge was a little less creative and called that same color "Bright Turquoise Metallic".   :rotz:

What year was that colour available? You sure don't see many of them...

"Technically" the color code Q5 was only available in 1969.  However, I know there was a very similar color in '68.  Troy's (hemi68charger) '68 is the color that is similar (Paint Code LL1 I think, but don't hold me to that).  I'm bad when it comes to colors, and especially different shades of colors.  Look at Troy's avatar, or check out his car's photo albums for a closer look to see what you think.  The 69 Service Manual lists the Ditzler Code for Q5 as *13534, where the * indicates that it is a "carry-over color".  I would assume by that annotation that the same color was offered in 1968, so Troy's car is probably that same color even though the code is different.

There was also another turquoise code used for '70 & '71, "FQ5".  The "F" designates that it was a color that was introduced during the 1970 model year, so there must have been some slight change in the paint color itself or else they would have called it EQ5 (69 introduction) or DQ5 (68 introduction).

Chris (Just 6T9_CHGR...) has 18 Charger/500/Daytona cars in the 69 Charger Registry with the Q5 designation, so that definitely puts it in the "rare" category compared to some of the more common colors.  I would assume that the other years follow that same pattern, although I haven't checked the '70 Registry to say for sure.

I don't know if that answered your question or not, but it's what the references / books say.

Hey 69 RT. That is beautiful. That is the exact original color of my 69. When mine was bead blasted, after the top 3 coats came off, that is what was found. Even the interior. Beautiful.

limey

Hemigeno...thanks for the bookwork.....that answers my question just fine....

Hi all, I thought I would send some more pictures of my car. It is supposed to be finished this month but we ran into a little snag. My engine a 440HP was rebuilt a year or so ago and even though we pre lubed it and pumped oil prior to trying to fire it up, it ended up bending six of the eight intake push rods, thankfully my engine builder is a good guy and said he would be down to check it out. Any ideas what could cause this. Also CB if you read this I would like to forward these pictures to you for an updated post, They take up so much space that I cannot post them myself.

Thanks

MOPARHOUND!

My first thought is the valves hit the pistons.  Best check for bent valves also.

What cam are you using?  What pistons?

Thanks guys, CB will post more pictures when he can. I am very pleased with the time and effort my body man Glenn Martin from central PA took doing this project. He took it from the barn to where it is today and working at night after his full time job as a painter for Thomas Chevrolet in Bedford. It far beyond what I was thinking when we started. I am looking for some nice trim moldings that attach to the molding under the trunk lid on each side, mine are not the best and if I can buy some in excellent shape it will save me sending them for rechroming.

Great news, my engine builder came down and tore off the timing cover and discovered he missed the timing mark, after setting the timing chain correctly and replacing new push rods we put her together and she fired up instantly, no leaks, and she sounds great. I'll be able to sleep tonight.
