Hi my name is Nathaniel, im 15. There happens to be a 73 or 74 Charger at a mans house near mine, and I was wondering what I could look for that would tell me exactly what year the car is and what kind of charger it is (ex: Rallye, r/t etc). Also maybe some problem spots for rust on that generation?  I'm interested in figuring out what I can about this car as I plan on trying to buy it eventually. Thanks.

without check the VIN ? no vent grills on hood close to windshield and shoulder front seatbelts hanging out from where supposed to be the B pillar post will tell you is a 74. Looking at the VIN, 6th digit will say 3 or 4 ( 73 or 74 )

Bulged hood ( if original ) will tell you is a Rallye

No R/Ts since 72, Rallye package replaced it.

Rust spots ? the same on all those years cars from any brand... lower quarter areas and Ropof if vinyl top. More rust will depend of its life.

Hello Nathaniel and welcome to DC.com.

Also the steering wheels are a dead give away if the previous owners didn't change them out.

Below pics are examples:  :2thumbs:

yes... the steering wheel is a signal too, except if it was changed or got tuff wheel or the plain 3 spokes one ( mainly if  is WL21 on VIN )

also if switches indicators got an icon and not just the words, being 74 if so.

If trunk floor got a hump down the spare tire is a 74, etc...

( but if you already got closer to the car you already was able to check the VIN )

The seatbelt hanging from the "B pillar" area and the hood grilles absence will got you on the year from the distance

here a 74.... note the seatbelt hanger from around the middle area of the roof ( around B pillar area ) and no grilles on hood close to windshield ( no matter if buldged or flat hood )

this specific car is a Rallye

a 73 could get a hanging shoulder seatbelt because is not storaged/clipped to the roof correctly, but will be hanging closer to C pillar area
