Hi guys, am located in Australia,Victoria and have been trying to purchase a reasonably priced 68 or 69 dodge charger, Most ones that come up on ebay here are around the 30k mark for ones that need a fair bit of work done, Full of rust and paint job required, basically a whole resto that would i assume cost me well over 100k, fair bit outta my price range, Ive contacted a few american/aussie import car shops and still, for a charger to be imported id be looking at 30k US plus permits, document, freight, gst costs etc that the government requires. I guess my question is, has anyone here had much luck lately importing chargers over into AUS, or do any of you guys in the states know any good companies OR whatnot that import/export and have any 68 or 69 chargers for sale in good knick that wont break my bank.

Hard to say a budget, but one for 15-20k that needs a bit of work would be fair for me. Not one for 40k that needs a full resto like ive seen a fair few here go for lol.
Cheers

It honestly seams like for $20K, the only 2nd gen Charger you can get, will need a lot of work.
It sucks but it is what it is right now.
That being said some good solid cars can be had for around that price, but they will almost certainly need quite a lot of work.
Good Luck!!!

Fred

Cost me a fortune to restore mine. Just no getting around it.
Do hope you can realise your dream real soon.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

jefferson

Hey mate. You weren't selling yours were you? Saw on just auto a bloke in craigiburn advertising a Dodge charge that looks like your dp for 85000

Fred

No mate, that's not mine.
Mine's a hemi and it's not for sale.

Jefferson are you in a position to buy a Charger that's already on the road here?
Gotta love a '69

Yes Sir. Even a 71/72 valiant charger. Few on eBay but pass.

Would rather a Dodge charger but wouldn't pass up a sweet valiant either.

On the road. With a bit of work as required. I'm deffs in the market.

yep ditto , they aint any around in aus for that , but also 25 to 30 is a bit on the steep side also
, i know of 2  cars here in vic  and they both  need a resto  , and  another one sitting in a shed no motor , and another with a blown motor , not for sale of course  :brickwall:

Yep, be prepared to be looking at upward of 70 for a good driver.
I know of a 68 for 75k and a 69 that is close to me for 75k. Both in Perth

Yea figured anything less than 70k was dreaming. On what do you guys think of this . bloke has a 68 charger for sale 22k check it out http://justmustangs.com.au/forsale/#507 seems steep to me but idk. Any idea on resto costs for it?

jefferson

Scroll down the car list to the 68 charger. Don't think that link takes you directly too it. Man you know of 3 charger's here in Vic and not one is up for sale. Wtf man that's upsetting😢

MoparMotel

I sold a 69 R/T SE 440 orange with saddle interior and a black R/T stripe to Australia in 2007-2008... have any of you guys ran across it by chance?

I actually bought mine from the same place in 2006 and visited Just Mustangs last year whilst on a trip to Melbourne. He seems a pretty legit kind of guy in my opinion. If that car's fairly straight it could be worth paying that little bit more for, so you have less to do when it gets to panel and paint.
You'd easily have to put 35k into it, and that's if there's no structural rot.

But basically for just a shell it seems steep doesn't it?

A12 Superbee

The asking price for US Chargers here in Oz has skyrocketed! 2nd Gen R/T's are up around $130-150K, waaaaaaay overpriced, that's $101,000 to $117,000 US dollars for what are almost always 4 barrel auto R/T's. V code cars, genuine ones anyway, never come on the market here and in my opinion, Australian sellers are asking V code money for four barrel cars.

500's, small blocks, 4 barrel 383 cars are generally $75K minimum Australian dollars, that's $58K US, and these are all cars that need a few or many things fixed but generally present well from 10 feet away.

I am yet to see concrete proof of any US Charger sold in Australia for over $100K, plenty of people will say they know of one, or saw one at an auction sell for that but when pressed can never provide a single shred of evidence to support it.

It seems there are a lot of dreamers over here and each one feeds off the other when they list their cars for sale.

Any Charger for sale in Oz that is under $30K will be a total resto shitter and anything >$30K and  <$50K will be hiding a myriad of secrets. Everyone wants one over here and it seems a good place to import crap cars and palm them off for too much to cashed up dickheads who have heaps of passion but have done little homework and are too scared to import one because they are scared of the new asbestos import restrictions. Even with the exchange rate what it is, you'll still do better importing a car yourself and leave the aussie dreamers in their fantasy world.
