to think that my little old 318 is worth that makes my heart sing, it shows me that putting all the money i have spent into it (on a highschoolers budget mind you) is worth while!

so do you think this is the true pricing?

Holy Smackdown!

I don't think it was very long ago that I looked at mine and it said the high number (I can dream can't I?) was $37,500.  Now its sitting at $43,400  :o

Still won't sell it though  :icon_smile_big:

Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

You guys  ::) Don't click on the engine option once you clicked on the car. Your just adding 20% to what already is.

the reason i added the 440 on mine is because my car is origanly a 318, thus i selected that, but it will shortly have a 440 in it... makes sense doesnt it?

I can't see fetching 20-25k for mine once its completed... I think NADA is a little off when it comes to muscle car values. Maybe a little optomistic for sellers and pessimistic for buyers.

Not really. I believe they are speaking of factory options. I do not understand why they have that selection. But I do not believe that a factory 318 converted to 440 would book that much. It would no doubt be closer to the factory 318 value. maybe a little bit more as it would entice a driver who doesn't have the money for a factory 440 car.

41husk

either way I think there values are a bit on the high side.

I think a factory 318 with a 440 will be worth about as much as the 318 car plus several thousand bucks for the 440 setup.  No correlation to what a factory R/T is worth in most cases.

But carefully built factory R/T clones seem to bring more money on average than a decent 318-to-440 street machine clone, even if the street machine clone is mechanically well-done.

Well according to this the $20k I've just spent on mine isnt too bad

Does seem a little high for current US prices though....even though they have been skyrocketing for some time.....

Shakey I don't want to dissapoint you.I believe you are not supposed to add the engine size as it asked you for that information already. There is something about a default on the top regarding engine displacement.

I agree with that. But I think to get the clone money it has to be a real clone and have more than a '78 440 dropped in. It needs to have the full treatment. But still, I think the price would still be at best maybe somewhere half way between the 318 and the R/T price points.

I would have to agree with the overall value on mine but, the high retail value is very unlikely. Somewhere in between average and high seems realistic. I don't agree with a 10% increase for an original 4 speed car though....20% to 25% is more accurate.

http://www2.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-22-1-5013-0-0-0&l=1&w=22&p=1&f=5014&c=11&m=1052&d=2450&y=1969&s=69525&o=10968&z=00000&da=-1

Adding the engine option on top of the value that already has it included will really throw off your final value. That value is already figured into the base R/T price according to the side note. I don't quite agree with adding 30% for a 440 engine when it was never offered in anything except the R/T so the program must make some consideration for engine transplants.

Like so many issues with values in the old car hobby, I think we have a certain amount of denial at work.

A lot of the official sources for values of these cars would rather tell people what the car "should be" worth than the amount that it actually trades for most of the time.  They often take years to acknowledge siesmic shifts in the hobby.

The great example is the high-quality clones of factory Hemi cars:
Lately these clones are selling for a lot more than just the combined price of the base model car and the Hemi crate motor in it.  But there are a lot of sources still insisting that only factory muscle cars are worth anything more than the base models.
