if I have a ~10,3:1 engine with a Crower 282HDP camshaft and change to the Resto magnum camshaft... Could the emissions get reduced ?

Co at idle would probably reduce, but nox would go up. So yes and no. Depends on what they are testing for.

Ok, just thinking on the moment I take my car to Europe, to try to pass the emission test and be able to drive it. Change the camshaft just for the test, then reinstall the Crower cam. I have no idea about whats the emission status on my engine thought, since we don't have those regulations down here

I can only talk for the UK....and we are part of Europe...at least for the next few months!!!. (VERY bad decision but that's political talk and not for here). Here my 69  will have to pass no emissions test at all. Car is too old. Cars older than 1975 (diesels older than 1979) are just tested on sight.....no actual measurements. So if you take it in for a test and its not billowing clouds of smoke it will pass. Cant believe its much different in other parts of Europe !

I'm thinking on Spain at this moment, which I have known got more restrictions ? dunno.

A quick google on the Spanish roadworthiness test (known as the ITV) seems to say that if its registered as a classic car and is over 25 years old anything goes emissions wise. I would double check before you go though! :2thumbs:

Could you put a Catalytic converter on it?
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

The more duration and overlap the cam has the higher the rpm it needs to run "clean". If they don't require an exact idle speed , increase it and see if that helps.

Last time I had a stock 1974 Charger with a 400 Magnun on an exhaust analyzer was 40 years ago. We looked at CO2 and unburnt hydrocarbon levels at idle and 2500rpm (no load). We did not test oxides of nitrogen. Low co2 and unburnt hydrocarbons numbers at 2500 rpm where easy to get. Low idle numbers where tougher.

In general we where told back then that as co2/unburnt hydrocarbons go down, NOX goes up . You need to know what they test for and how.

Nacho, no problem with emssions in Spain, Is test exempt in emissions since for register the vehicle is Historical licence.
Mine instaled a purpleshaft 484 and flowmasters and the test pass right.

OOOOH A SPANISH FELLOW...

Hey Nacho, any limitation with historical registry, the insurance limits, generali, 5000 KM year but nobody in the insurance company check the odometer.
This night send a private and tell you more info.
