That owner and car are awesome.

The engine is a 5 liter V8 from a BMW E39 M5, and the suspension came from a late model Lexus.

I love it.

That's awesome, I'm even ok with the German engine... Since I don't have to care if he blows it up

Looks pretty light weight actually for a Charger. Love the in car of the driver fully suited and the passenger in tights and street shoes. At least she's enjoying herself.

He's making a joke about how large the hydraulic handbrake lever is.

Yep:

It does look like a shifter from a 70s peterbuilt. ;D

I prefer the smaller ones that look like a bigger handbrake. I don't like a big reach between the shifter and the handbrake. Some guys like them though.

uhh...cant wait till mine is done, i have double the hp and tire

The handbrake is a baseball/softball bat! I like the Big Boy bobblehead on the dash.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I find it amusing all the thumbs up this car is recieving, yet a general lee is considered the destruction of a charger.
That aside, its cool to see a 17 foot long land yacht sideways through turns.

That looks like fun to me.   Having fun with cars is why we are all here chatting about them.

I tried doing that stuff with my new 69 bee at age 19.  May passengers were not happy. :shruggy:

Amateurs!! Proper drifters don't use the handbrake to get it sideways and then the throttle to hold it....in fact he does not even hold it sideways too long. Should just be high throttle, low grip and rather more skill than he had! Not saying I could do better....but then I'm not posting videos on youtube either!!

Ignore the stupid cars (some at least) and the burnouts and some of these guys have real throttle control and can really street drift. Yes its stupid on the public roads......but you know you would like to try if you could!!!

The baseball bat hand brake is just...

Back in my day, we called it power sliding. My favorite time to hit it was just after a light rain...because I wasn't made of money back then, to constantly buy new tires. I had a few cloverleaf freeway off/on ramps that were especially fun, I could go sideways around the whole thing. :D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

All professional drift cars have hydraulic handbrakes, Alfa. In every drift series. Formula D, J1, etc, they all use them. Even the 1200 HP cars. Their especially useful in tandem drifting when multiple cars are inches away from each other, and you need to maintain angle without accelerating.

They are used in conjunction with other methods of initiating and maintaining slides, (clutch kicking, weight transfer, overpowering the wheels, etc).

It's interesting how drifting setups have evolved.  Decades ago they were trying to make the cars easy to break loose.  Now they try to make them stick & handle well for faster drifts.

Some people say the sport has turned into too much of a smoke show.  It's been in a spiral of increasing hardware & expense.  More HP, leads to wanting more tire, which leads to wanting more HP.

Fair enough JR..but I was talking about street drifting....I doubt any of the cars in my video had anything other than the factory handbrake. A hard flick of the wheel and a big bit of throttle...then modulate from there...as said above the wetter the better as far as tyre damage is concerned!

You can not compare real drifting to a couple of teenagers sliding around 1 corner or staring from a dead stop into a round about. That is complete amateur stuff. Professional drifting uses handbrakes all the time, it's how they set angle going into a corner with speed behind them and or on the brakes to keep angle when slowing down. The video you post is a joke. Here is a real drifter using handbrake as they all do

Handbrake is part of drifting...that's like saying the throttle is not used in drag racing lol. Here's another example of perfectly executed handbrake work by professionals https://youtu.be/7vqRnGXPOwU
