426 hemi block needs a sleeve - buy it? yes or no

Found a 426 Hemi block for my 69 Charger RT Hemi project car that has spun a bearing and needs at least one sleeve. No cracks or other damage. Need your thoughts: Any issues with sleeving a Hemi block? Dates are very close to being correct for my car. I'm a few years a way from get the body done. Should I keep looking and if I don't find anything just get a crate motor?

It's 50 (+) years old and it's damaged, so it all depends on how good of a deal it is.

This is a good question.
Does an original hemiblock that is broken have value? It depends.

If all it needs is a sleeve that is a plus.

I have a 69 block that has a window repair that was done well and the engine was run with that repair for a long time. I have since had it checked and aligned honed. It is ready for duty.
The problem for my case is selling it -as is- an obvious repaired block. I expect any buyer to be shy.

My advice is to not accept that it just needs a sleeve. You need more information.

If I was to place my block for sale (for example) It would have to be re-examined and come with a document attesting its condition. This all costs money and time.

Your choice is to take a gamble and come in with what you feel is enough to lose if the block turns out to be just scrap.

I'd definitely check it out thoroughly to make sure that there is no other damage. If all it needs is a sleeve I would buy it. The matching numbers 440 for our 68 Charger has 4 sleeves in it and it ran great with no issues...

I would make an agreement with the seller to have it and the crank brought to the machine shop that you would use to do the machine work, have the block and crank magna fluxed and checked by your builder, as long as the shop/builder says it's good, then go forward with the sale.

If it requires a sleeve to repair a Cylinder crack or damage ?
Make darn sure there are no Cracks propagated up/onto the Deck, or down and out the cylinder bottom into the crankcase.
If there is ? waste of time.....

 Get it checked out like the rest of the members say but if its just a sleeve go for it. Done right it will last with no problems.....

If the price is right I would buy it. Hell, I have racing buddies with blocks with all 8 holes re-sleeved.

I would not think twice about running a sleeved block as long as it is installed correctly.

I know first hand of 8 sleeved race motors. Actually work better then stock. But its a matter of what your damage is that requires the sleeve and how much its worth to you.
