The fact that he mentions "no power locks" says it all.  :smilielol: :smilielol:

I'm definitely not an expert but these three guys wow :smilielol:  air cleaner setup was the only thing different that I'm used to seeing

That was the car,out of a Florida museum. Long story, reported as, one, of seventy, but not proven. On G.V.C at one point. Had a two page article written up years ago, stating that it was, special :shruggy:

it's not a NASCAR Charger....it's just a plain 66 Charger with a Hemi that has had a custom air cleaner adapted to it.

I would like to get a close look at that spoiler, I may have been one of the reproductions that we made and sold a while ago

"feels like a solid '66" 50-60 grand or 200,000

:hah:

I seem to remember that none of the Hemi-cars came with either power steering og AC, because the engine took up too much space?

Yeah, same so called "NASCAR" edition Charger that has been in a couple of different books & shows now but every other time I have seen the car it had the old style kidney bean stock car looking wheels in it.

You could get P/S on a Hemi Charger, many out there that has it......but A/C was not available with any 426 Hemi car made

My understanding why their were no Hemi cars is because the Hemi was designed & built as a performance engine to with stand higher RPMS & the dual cylinder A/C compressor was not designed to spin those kind of RPMs and might kick the rods out of the compressor. I can kind of see it in my Non-stock 440 Six Pack engine that I have A/C on. At about 5400+ RPMs & above the belts start to squeal because the compressor doesn't spin fast enough.  I remove the A/C belts when I go to the track.

There is also the interference issue with the air cleaner and AC compressor

Both the 340 and 383HP have the same or higher RPM potential and they were equipped with A/C.

During the muscle car era several Mopars weren't available with A/C, the Hemi and 6-Pack prohibition was due to air cleaner clearance issues but the 440 4-speed combo prohibition has never been satisfactorily explained.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Wonder if it was a sustained RPM issue for the compressor, since the 440 4 speed cars came with either a 3.54 or 4.10 gear.  :shruggy:
Was A/C available in conjunction with the trac pac or super trac pac with an automatic?

6pkrtse

I have been driving around with 4:10 gears in my Charger with Factory A/C for the last 27 years with no issues.

I know lots of people do it and have no issues. I was just wondering if it was an engineering thing from back in the day or something like that? Perceived risk or some engineering document that said not to to operate the compressor above a certain RPM for x amount of time or undue wear will happen faster or failure. I dunno, just spitballing here.....

The explanation that AC was not offered just because of a minor interference with the air cleaner is hard to swallow.

Consider the modifications to move the power brake booster for Hemi only cars. The offset bracket and a special pocket made for the underhood air collector to master cylinder for the fresh air cars.
As mentioned --the possible RPM issue of the AC compressor (If it was considered a potential problem) is an easy fix with pully diameter changes. (or an rpm cutoff switch for the compressor clutch). :scratchchin:

One thing is true. AC was not factory available with the Hemi. --- The reason could be as simple as--Na we are too busy right now to deal with it. :shruggy:

BTW did any Hemi cars come with the cruise control option?

You could not get lower than 3.23 with a/c, so No 440 4spd would have a/c because only Dana 3.54 and 4.10 came with the 440's, that's why you'll see 383 4spds with a/c because of the 8 3/4 rear with 3.23.

Reference? H51 option (A/C) only required D34 (auto trans)

there are numerous (I wouldn't quite call them "PLENTY"  :icon_smile_big:) 340 4-speed & 383 4-speed musclecars with A/C & 3.55:1 sure-grip rear axles

3.54 DANA 60 was 4-speed ONLY & ZERO with A/C

4.10 DANA 60 was NOT available with A/C in anything
