Hi,

I have the Rally dash gauges, but with no clock or tach.  I would like to switch to one with a tach.  It the wiring harness different for this?  What would I need to convert, other than the correct gauges of course?

As an aside, was a tach even offered on a '74?  It seems as though it wasn't

Thanks,

hemihead

The Tach was an option on the 74 Ralley cluster.I think you would also need a harness for the Ralley Cluster w/Tach.

Basic rallye Cluster is completelly different with teh rest specially back housing. Small gauges ( temp and amm ) are also complete different between two models, same as the big double meter gauge ( gas and oil ), so beside the woodgrained bezel, speedo, voltage limiter and switches NOTHING of the rest of assembly is interchangeable.

Now... if you find a tach cluster, only wires different on tach clusters underdash harnesses are a wire from accesories source and wire running from negative side of coil ( green traced yellow ).

So, first try to get the right cluster and don't worry about harness, because you can easily add just those two wires.

You can get the clock cluster, what is a lot easier adn cheap to find, remove the clock and install the tach since those two cluster ARE DEFINITELLY AND EXACTLY THE SAME, with just that gauge difference.

Clock cluster only difference with basic rallye cluster about harness is a black wire that feeds the clock, BUT is just a black wire hooked diretly to ammeter stud. But this wire is already attached on cluster and nothing to do with underdash harness itself.

Repro tachs are available at chargerspecialties.com... very close to originals, with slightly different font numbers.

I got all the extra parts and made one for myself. All I have to do is take the original speedo out of my car and install it in the new cluster.

Thanks guys.  So I can change to a cluster with a clock or tach from my current "standard" Ralye cluster, and only need to add the wires for the tach?  The wires to the fuel/oil/temp and other gauges stay the same?

DodgeChargerGuy - that is what I was thinking of doing - getting the cluster I want and swapping out my speedometer into it.

Yes... every wire and socket to bulb is the same.

tach just need accesories source with a blue wire and negative side of coil signal with a green traced yellow, easy to add ( colors I'm giving you are original ones ). You can just run the wire fom coil up to bulkhead and from there up to tach and taped it together to harnesses to make it looks like original... on Engine harness there is an empty space on plug to put that wire and terminal... same about empty cavity on bulkhead

clock already has wire attached to cluster, but if not, is just a wire between clock prong and ammeter stud... alt side.

wires from limiter voltage to gauges on back of cluster is also attached to cluster and  is longer on basic rallye cluster and shorter on clock/tach clusters, so if cluster you get has missed that wire, you won't have any problem trying to fit your existing one on the new one.

you won't have any problem... just get the cluster itself is the "problem", specially tach one.

Nacho-RT74,

Thanks for the quick reply.  I sourced a cluster with a clock, no tach, and resigned myself to ordering the tach and harness from Year One.  Expensive, but at least I have a 20% off coupon to ease the pain.
