Bumper jack disassembly

I'm looking to restore my bumper jack for my 68 Charger. Is there a way to remove the ratcheting mechanism from the main bar to paint the parts?

Prep for paint.

Mask bar & paint mechanism - let paint cure.

Park mechanism at one end & mask it off.

Paint most of bar, let cure.

Slide mechanism to far end of shaft, then finish painting the bar.

Thanks, I didn't know if that was the only way to do it or if there was a trick to take it apart
