Well I got the head off and proceded to snap two threadalls and part of a drill bit in the stud. The stud is for the exhaust manifold, so I was going to take it to Georges Speed Shop(aka Ohio George Montgomery) place. They do good work, I just wonder how much its gonna run......any ideas?

You got an easy out?  Try that.    Penetrating oil and soak it. Take your time. May take a few days.   I have also heard heating it up and touching it with a candle to get the hot wax to flow down into the threaded areas.  Heat may also help with the easy out.

:iagree:   I broke an exhaust  stud off in one of my Pontiac heads and got it out. I drilled it and used an easy out. I soaked it real good with pb blaster and it worked good but took awhile.

I have snapped off 2 easy outs in it.

The stud is rusted in the hole BIG TIME and I have tried penetrant oil and heat.

It seems the car hates me and is making sure nothing goes easy.

Thanks for the tips.

I had a shop do one in my heads. It cost me about $35 for the one stud. I would pay it again.

Just my 2 cents...

Consider yourself lucky if you have all of your fingers after trying to remove a broken stud.  How much is your time worth?  Take to a machine shop or speed shop,  one to two hours of labor and it will good as ........ :yesnod:

good luck

I had an ugly experience breaking off 2 easy-outs in my mustang's flywheel a while back...& in frustration made it even worse trying to get them out.  So when I broke off an exhaust manifold stud on my charger's head a few weeks ago, I took it straight to the machinist.  Cost me $35 which was well worth avoiding the headache!

Machinist charges me $20 each for the two I broke.
Note: he was also rebuilding my engine.

I just did that yesterday to mine.It took me about 45 minutes but i got it.Never tried anything like it before.I had accually called a shop. They told me if the head was off they would charge me $25.00 thats not bad.But anyway Goodluck and hope you get it out.... ;)

best way to get out broken studs that allways worked for me is soaking in penetrating oil for a few days, then weld the inside of a nut onto the stud, right after welding, remove, works like a charm on even the worst ones, at least for me is has.  the heat from welding really helps also. :o ;D
