this is the first time i've ever ported my own heads, and i think i might have did a little much.  I was doing a bowl blend and the ridge where the machined part meets the cast part is now smooth (for the most part)  I was reading along with a site that said to blend them down to a nice smooth transition.  The next page said that the throat should be no more than 90 % of the diameter of the valve.  ---Now i'm wondering..........is a ported head suppose to have a small "shoulder" right under the valve?  -or did i do it right by grinding it out.---  it makes sense that the flow would be improved with that lip removed, but am wondering if that lip helps to channel the airflow towards the center of the valve more.

thanks

I always clean the ridge behind the valve out completely , even the Mopar templates show you to do this , so you are fine

hooo............thanks man........i'm breathing a little easier now.
any other little tips or tricks for porting the 906's?

how much do you take out around the valve guide usually?

Chryco Psycho

lots , narrow the guide down to an 1/8 " or a bit more & shape it like a wing with round into the air flow & a knife edge toward the valve , you can shape the whole block between the guide & the roof of the portright above the valve
