There are not enough pissed off emoticons in this world to convey how infuriated I am upon watching this video.  Once again ignorance and money come together and produce nothing but senseless destruction.   :RantExplode: :RantExplode: :brickwall:  :cussing:

WTF. . . That car is done. I cannot believe those people. What the hell are they thinking. That pisses me off. Another Charger wasted.

Sucks. So this is the 440 4 spd dana car that was on Ebay to be sold to someone after the jump?

It didn't sound like the crowd was very big. Hopefully they lost big $$$. I hate to lump people into groups but these events seem like they are targeted at the same people who watch NASCAR for the crashes and hockey for the fights. What a waste that it's considered "entertainment". The problem is that people keep paying and as long as there's money to be made someone will step in to take it no matter how much the fans complain. Seriously, on the show the GL almost always appeared to come out unscathed so if you were a true fan why would you want to see it get demolished?

Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

Charger1973

wow.  whats was the point of that...  stupid people

MassCharger73

Not that this is much better, but after the nose dive the 440 did, in the future they will want to use the small block cars to put on a " better " show.

even in the original series most of there jump/stunt cars were the small block plain jane cars..

I have a GL. I hope you guys understand not all of us clone owners (infact it seems like in this case most all of us) are against things like this.

 ???

There isnt a point on earth that anybody could make that says that makes sense.

Thats like watching video of a fatal wreck

Charger1973

Ive always wanted a General since I was a little kid, but dont support this at all, I think its the dumbest thing I have ever seen.  Whether it was the R/T or a 318 car makes no difference to me its still a Charger.

i can accept the fact that in the early 80's warner brothers did wreck quite afew chargers because in the early 80's nobody really wanted them (for the most part)...so it would be kinda like taking a bunch of 85 dodge aries's and pushing them off a cliff and selling tickets...nobody would really care, but in 30 years other people might look at us like what the hell were they thinking!?!?!? But I agree now adays they shouldn't do it, i kinda understand when they did the big 25th aniversary (or whatever year it was) jump down in georgia....as the dukes is/and still is a very popular show with a HUGE number of fans...but they used a bondo buggy charger that i'm pretty sure there wasn't a usable part on the thing...that doesn't bother me TOO MUCH..but this recent thing where everyone thinks they need to get a charger and jump it is starting to get stupid...especially a real 440 4-speed DANA R/T....oh well guess i just wanted to get that out

:rotz: what kind of jump was that? If you are going to waste it anyways why not just do a good one. I don't believe any of those General Lee jumps so far have resulted in a nice landing? I mean if you do it do it right or you might as wel don't. I can enjoy a good car jump it is pretty fun but I can enjoy seen a 80's K car just as much as a General Lee as it doesn't matter what flies through the air it is much more about the jump and the landing. This car was just wasted without a real purpose. What a waste of a perfectly good 440 4 spd car.

It wasnt even a good jump... :-\

thats what i was thinking

Hasn't it been learned by now how to make them things fly a little more horizontal?  Maybe they do it on purpose to keep from destroying the rear and the front,
While I don't agree with it, it's their car to do what they wish with it.  Hopefully it was a bondo bucket like the FastNFurious II Challenger's.
I too don't see how the small crowds justify doing such stuff, maybe they charge about a grand per head for admission.

Darkness

I see their into into LS1 Camaros and Firebirds. Maybe we should buy a few of those and jump them and then make a video of it.  ;D

General_01

Jumping these cars is getting out of hand. There looked to be maybe 80-100 people there. I hope as Troy stated that they lost there a** on this deal. At least at Dukesfest there are more people and it is an event especially to commemerate the Dukes. This just seemed to be a "Let's have a barbeque and jump a Dodge Charger" deal. ::) I wonder if the Smith brothers will lose business because of this. Almost everyone opposes this type of stuff, even on the GL fan club websites.

I was told, but it has never been confirmed with paperwork or anything, that the previous owner of my replica (it has been a replica since the early to mid 80's) was contacted by WB during the series. They wanted to buy his car for the series. He turned them down. If it is true, I am happy because if he had, my car would probably be in a junkyard somewhere looking like that thing.

That had me wondering from the start. Surely they didn't expect someone to bid seriously, and not provide a VIN pic or a tag for that matter. I wonder if this car was ever an RT 4spd. I'll bet the auction is won by a zero feedback bidder. It doesn't make it any better if it was a 318, what they did was pointless and well...

I love this quote..."Bid to win an original "General Lee," jumped and signed by professional stuntmen."  Do they really think their hee-haw version of a GL jump will go down in history?

ps- did you guys see those quarters cave when he hit? Ughhh... :rotz:

Yes.  Destined for a rebody, methinks.

Anyone else notice that they no longer have the "questions asked/answered" displayed?  Too many people must have told them how incredibly idiotic they were for wrecking such a car.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

Nupe

The DOH was neat to watch as a kid for Daisy and the General Lee and other odd ball Mopars.  Still even in grade school I thought the jump thing was completely stupid.  :rotz:  And in this day and age for meat heads to actually go and watch that is crazy.

What a waste!  :flame:

That's my video clip of the jump.

There were actually several thousand people there, but most were behind me.
Admission to the jump was FREE.  It was done 100% for the shop's publicity.
They'll probably lose money on the whole jump operation after selling the wrecked car, and they don't seem to mind very much.

Once again, nobody could talk them out of jumping that particular car.  The guy owned several other Chargers, but he wanted this one to be the jumper becuase it has been owned by WB at one point.  (But it wasn't ever used onscreen in any of the episodes.  It was strictly for car shows & stuff.)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

QuoteHasn't it been learned by now how to make them things fly a little more horizontal?

They want them going nose-down to some extent.  Safer than landing flat.  (The car is gonna get totalled anyway, even if it lands perfectly flat on all fours.)
This one nosed-down a little too much, but not greatly out of whack.  They were also testing a new weight box for this time and they set it up a little differently than usual.

Quotewhat kind of jump was that? If you are going to waste it anyways why not just do a good one. I don't believe any of those General Lee jumps so far have resulted in a nice landing?

The Bristol 2004 jump was absolutely perfect and flew almost 200 feet.  The MTV jump was a slightly nose-UP  landing.  But people just remember the mishaps a lot more.

Being there in person, a nose-down jump isn't exactly disappointing.  They're all dramatic & very cool even when they're "messed up." And plenty of jumps in Hollywood end up the same way, even now.  Heck, those unibodies get buckled just from hitting the RAMP.  The car's dead upon landing no matter how it actually hits the dirt.

QuoteI don't understand...  what you are saying is, you actually support this mess?

No, I don't.  I'm just trying to keep the correct facts circulating about this.

Did I go and watch the jump? Yes.
I also think Wal-Mart is hurting the country and yet I still shop there occasionally.  I also think fast food is bad for me and yet I still eat it sometimes.

I'm a huge DOH fan and I like seeing live GL jumps.  So sue me.  I wouldn't stage my own jump but I will go watch one that I can't stop from happening.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The live GL jumps were awesome once, maybe twice.  When they were done as a big fan celebration of the show.  And done with rusty 318 parts-cars.
After that it's just a waste.  And wrecking a restorable 440/4spd R/T?  No justification for supporting that in my book.  Not in the modern era when people are supposed to know better.

I applaud the effort that the stunt guys have put into making those jumps as safe & controllable as possible.
And I support the fact that they've been nice to fans and even want to do any more stunts AT ALL without getting the kind of major paychecks & fame that Hollywood can often provide.

It's risky stuff they do.  It's a lot harder than it looks.

8WHEELER

A friend of mine has one of the 17 GL cars left over from the series, I support his car for what it is.

But there is nobody that could EVER get me to understand why charger lovers like to see
a charger get jumped, and destroyed............. I don't care if its an RT, or a 318 car, it just
looks stupid, then hearing all of the people in the back ground cheering like little girls  :rotz: :rotz:

I am glad to hear the GL fans out there also getting tired of it as well.
