My 4speed Superbird came with the 216 fan and 070 clutch...

The first Superbirds had clutched fan drives.  To improve cooling, a solid drive fan was specified to be installed on all E86 (440-4 bbl) and E87 (440-6bbl) engines with the D32 (727 Automatic transmission) after Nov 5, 1969.
The fan was p/n 2863223 –  (7 blade,  18" diameter) and the last 2 digits "23" will be on the Broadcast Sheet.
A 1.06" spacer was used with the solid fan - p/n 1851959. The last 2 digits "59" are coded on the Broadcast sheet.

Thanks for the learning curve!

My build sheet has 23 and 59 on it, but my car has the clutch fan on it. Engine has a blank VIN pad and what I've always figured was a warranty replacement from days of gone.

Talking with Jim.. I looked at my build sheet again. Find it weird that it still spells out the N65-Seven Blade Torque Driven Fan.. even though they put 23 and 59 in the fan and spacer locations on the build sheet as well ! Why would they list both?

My Broadcast Sheet is also coded as N65 and has 23 and 59 coded as well.  Why?? I can only guess and think that the Broadcast Sheet line that specifies N65 didn't get revised when the running change was made on Nov 5th.

Okay I'm confused about what my bird should have. I have a 4 barrel 4 speed built about the the 2nd week of Dec.

Sounds like a 7 blade clutch fan as originally planned.

We bought our cars in '76 and both the 4 speed and the auto had solid fans.  The 4 speed car's fan is the proper HD solid with the correct spacer and it looked like it had been on there since the beginning of time.  It's POSSIBLE it might have come that way, or maybe it was a warranty overheating issue?  Has anyone seen a memo describing replacing the clutch with a solid?

It's coded for the clutch on the sheet.  It'll hit the shelf soon, though...Hot Rod dyno tested a bunch of fans and that thing ate 30HP at 5200rpm!  I switched to a clutch on the B5 car last year.

16 and 70 like Troy's.  Weird thing is that I even have H bolts holding the direct drive fan on...either the factory put it there or it was pulled complete out of a junkyard?  It's pure speculation either way.
