Need both front fenders. Help! I purchased this car for my father who was a dodge salesman back in the 60,s early 70,s.  Trying to restore it .

randy73

IM 72charger72, I think he has a pair of 72 fenders.

Thanks Randy73 ... I just bought 72 fenders to replace the 73 fenders I had for mine. Nacho said there is no noticeable difference from outside but theres a gap when the hood is open where it joins the rad. I had never noticed that and had no issues putting the 73's on it. I wished had known this before I removed them for dipping as I would have checked everything.
They are mint 73 fenders acid dipped and epo primed and will be going up for sale as soon as my new ones arrive.
72's are being shipped from LI NY .....delivery is the 31st!
Happy New Yr!

I can't recall at this moment if the gap ( the same "gap" I'm having at this moment in mind  LOL ) is installing 71/72 fenders on a 73/74 or a 73/74 fender into a 71/72... BUT the fact is the inner structure doesn't match with radiator core support so won't be able to bolt into the provisions, and splash shields are diff because of this too.

Wish I still had my 73 around I could test this out. I have 71 72 and 73 fenders and a 71 and 72 body I think I do remember having splash shield issues not bolting up correctly but as you said its not visible and I didnt care back then now I do haha  :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Here is what is different between 72 and 73's.

1) inner fender is shaped different, but will not interfere with fender fitment.
2) Headlight buckets stick out farther on 73's, would need 72's to work
3) 73 fenders are shaped differently and may be slightly longer length wise (not sure on this), wheel well is different on the back side and molding around headlight is different. Will not effect fitment.
4) Whichever fenders you use, you will also need that years front valance, 72 valance will not work with 73 fenders and vice-versa.

That is all I have seen, I had a 72 pass. fender right next to my 73 and that is the only differences I saw.

Note, it you use a 73 fender on a 72,  you might need to do some work where the headlight molding goes. Not really sure as it was 2 yrs ago when I had both fenders. Also, when I said the 73 was was longer, I did not measure, I just eyeballed it and by longer I am only talking about an inch or so.

Nacho-RT74

EEEHM several mistakes there.

Valance fits the same with fender. Valance differences are not with fenders but frame rails height ( brackets ) and shape with radiator core support.

Wheel opening difference is the height being 73/74 around 1.5” higher but width is the same. “Dog leg” is exactly the same.

Fender lenght is the same.

71/74 Headlight buckets are the same except 71/72 hideaways, hence the wall where it attachs

And whatever has being mentioned before

Trust us here... Nacho knows the 3rd gen. Chargers and we love him here.

Nacho-RT74

Oh... one of the bolts proivision to inner fender doesn't match, for just a little. One of the middle ones as far I recall.

If there is something new I don't know, just let me know. I don't know EVERYTHING.

just have the confusion if the gap with ratiator core support is with 71/72 fenders on 73/74 or backwards. Once Tom ( AKA Twilt ) posted pics on the 3rd gen board about that gap... The deal is anyway, gap or not, the fender sheetmetal doesn't meet the radiator core support provisions, so the fender will fit somehow "floppy".

I was shipped a 72 valance by mistake and it would not fit, though it would bolt to the fenders, it would not bolt up any where else,  that is how I know about the valance and forgot about headlights, I went to hideaways hence my response.

Sorry for the confusion.

Nacho-RT74

looking at this 72 Fender, pretty sure now the gap I mentioned with radiator core support is installing a 71/72 Fender on a 73/74

If you have A 72 Charger, how can you say you got a 72 Valance by mistake.  I don't understand. :shruggy:

randy73

You do not read very well, I have a 73. Hence my userid randy73

Nacho-RT74

Yeap I did understand... and as mentioned will bolt on fenders no matter the year of them, but braces are year related, and also the rear edge shape... so valence must match with unybody.
