how many different rear ends were installed in chargers in 1969?

my charger is a 1969 with slant 6 and 3 speed manual. I suspect there is some type of dana rear in mine but i am curious is there were more than the 8 3/4 and dana installed in 69 due to it being a slant 6 or should it be a dana? :coolgleamA:

I think 3, the small 7 1/4 rear which only resembles a Dana because of the cover which bolts on like a Dana. Then there is the 8 3/4 and the actual Dana 60. I would be willing to bet you have the small 7 1/4 rear in your charger being it's a /6 car.

I have never seen a 7 1/4" axle in any Charger. They may have been built but I have never heard of it. I have seen the Dana 60, the 8 3/4" and the 8 1/4" axles.

Interesting info  I was going by what the FSM said, and then I found this link. Which backs up what you said about the 7 1/4 vs 8 1/4.

The 8.25" rear first appeared with 318s in 1969-later.  They were useing 8.75" rears on 318s in 1968-earlier.

I'm not sure about the occasional slant-6 Chargers.  They were pretty rare.

thanks MoparNut

Well it looks like the one you guys are talking about the 7 1/4. sad I was hoping for a dana or 8 3/4

it is geared super high, I swear i believe it will run 80 in 2nd gear with this 3 speed.

My friend has a 225 67 Coronet with it's original 7 1/4" rear.  I'm sure there were ones in slant six Chargers.  I would hope B body 8 3/4 rears might still be able to be found.

The axle in the above picture is indeed a 7 1/4" unit. Is that a Charger? Rare and strange!

yep Kern Dog,
thats my 1969 Dodge charger with Slant 6 and 3 speed manual on the column (previous owner moved it to the floor)
the guy at the body shop said today that it was a Australian Slant 6? And even said he believed it to have what he called a Hemi 6?
not sure about all that but it definitely :coolgleamA: is unique.

Saw the pic in the other thread.  It is not an Australian 245 inline six.  He is confused.
Mopar forever!

Bronzedodge,
thanks for the clarification. I didn't think it was either. I do believe the 225 slant 6 in the car to be original tho

I have never seen the 7-1/4" rear end in a Charger either....those were the weakest units out there...I broke 2 of them in my V8 66 Dart long ago.....my 70 Charger 318 car had the 8-1/4" from the factory

with that being said...

does anyone have a 8 3/4 charger rear end that they are willing to part with??? :2thumbs:
