After I bought my Shelby Charger in 1983, Dodge sent me a similar package of "Dodge Shelby" or "Shelby Dodge" merchandise including special Shelby key blanks. My car was only $9200, but it was a special interest car that Dodge was pretty excited about at the time.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

You buy a new $80,000+ Dodge Demon and a month later they send you a gift package that cost them about $5.00 to produce.

Who made out on this deal?

But wow that horsepower  :2thumbs:

Still not for me, not at $1000.00+ a month car payment for 5 years  :eek2: :eek2:

Your math....it only pays back $60,000 if NO interest is added to the loan. Dealers are doing 7 year loans now!

I ordered mine a few months ago when they were first offered.  I know the Owner's of 3 different FCA Dealerships and put a deposit down at all 3 locations.  I ultimately received allocation at 2 of the Dealerships but opted on the location where I normally get my Chrysler cars from.  (I'll "finance" it for one payment the day it comes in and I pick it up.....LOL). I am fortunate to know the top brass at FCA and ordered a "one of a kind" Demon.  It will have a color combination that no other Demon will be built or offered with.  I wasn't sure it would make it through the order process but by pulling a few strings, it is being "custom" built.  It won't be ready for delivery until after the first of the year or possibly the very early Spring.  I'll be sure to post pictures when it finally comes in.

Agreed. The scenario above was not so much as if I was to do it. It was aimed towards the average car buying consumer. By average I mean that there are more people who finance cars than does who buy them out right.

I would NEVER take a loan out for a car, new or used.
Hey I'm not perfect and I have issues but making car payments isn't one of them.

Yeah I know, should've stated more like $1400.00 which is way closer to $1500.00. That's why I put the "+" next to $1000.00.

Here's an online example of buying one of these Dodge Demons at the starting price and at 3.26% interest rate for monthly payments for 60 months.

https://m.dodge.com/en/mobile/apps/pe/index.html

7 month loans?? That's insane. I remember the max loan periods being 36 months coming out of high school.

EDIT: Link only goes to the fill out section page. Here's a screenshot of my example. Also I forgot to include a 10% down payment to the example above.

Cool looking car...we wont ever see one here....unless its a personal import. It was tested on Top Gear a couple of weeks back. They dragged it to prove how quick it was. They were very impressed by the acceleration but way less than impressed on the way it handled compared to most other cars with that sort of power. Which I'm guessing why I wont be imported.....Euros like cars that handle....except us US car fans over here of course.....but my Charger will handle....a bit....I hope!

If it didn't weight 4280 ish pound (1945 kilos....so about as much as Euro mid size pick up truck!..... it might actually go around corners......and be even quicker. Why is it so heavy??? Weighs exactly the same as the much bigger 4 door BMW M5.

I've seen enough episodes over the past 15 or so years to conclude that that show is not a fan of USA cars and the USA as a whole.  Top Gear rarely has something positive to say about the USA and cars built here. ... so nothing new there.

I think you are just not getting their humour...that like cars..full stop. Hammond had several US muscle cars..new and old and until recently Clarkson owned a recent GT40. The simple fact is that not many US built (built meaning styled and engineered as well as actually screwed together) cars sell in any volume outside the states. It's not just their looks, which seem to appeal mainly to you guys whereas Japanese and German cars seem to have more universally excepted looks,...but the fact that historically US cars have suspension that is more suited to comfort or going fast in a straight line rather than outright handling. Where we will sacrifice a little comfort to go round corners faster. Not saying that's a bad thing...different strokes...etc etc. Your counties history with and love of drag racing (almost a dead sport here) also influences your car design....as much as track days and the Nurbergring does ours. But the Demon is much too heavy....I can't see why they cant lose 400lb...and make it quicker still. I'd love to try one though!
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you !!

You could be right...you guys have a different kind of humor.

And drag racing almost a dead sport in the United Kingdom?

Santa pod raceway just invested a million Pounds sterling this winter to take out the asphalt and pour a completely new concrete track surface.
I don't think they would do that if drag racing in the U.K. was dying anytime soon.

True enough but the Pod is the home of Drag in the UK..where national and international events are staged (excuse the pun..lol). Quite a few years back we had dozens of tracks with regular events. Now we have about 6 nationwide...some of them are not permanent (ie, they are old air strips pressed into service a couple of times a year) and some are eighths...not a real drag strip to me! Pity really...never really had an interest in car drag....but I put a few bikes down the strip. Fun, exciting and petrifying all at the same time!

I'm usually not a fan of green cars either, but for some reason I like this one. Would look good w/ more black accents.

But my question is...from a practical standpoint, how "driveable" is the Demon?  Could it theoretically be used as a daily or is it really more like a "Sunday Car" / Track Toy?

I'd pick the green one over red. That is a color that is not seen everywhere.  :2thumbs:
I used to not care for the green cars but my mind has changed about them the last few years. I am absolutely burned out on Black, White and Silver on new vehicles.

I hear that.....but not so burned out to make green seem like a good idea! That's why I'm going for a Royal metallic blue...just to be different. Its actually a Ford colour (sorry...but its just paint)....with the great name of Deep Impact Blue!!

Absolutely hate Top Gear and their "cheeky" cast.  They're entitled to their opinion of American cars being "rubbish," and I exercise my choice to not pay them one bit of attention.  Well, there was that one time that the little guy on the show supposedly bought a '68 Charger R/T and they even featured it, but I get the feeling they set up that segment just to make fun of 2nd Generation Chargers and American cars in general.  I never watched an episode after that one...

Ghoste

I'm with you Myk.  Bash American cars and then show your superiority by driving a microcar in an office building or racing a bullet train with a raft you made from a Defender.  What does that even prove?  Go ahead and have fun but if you can celebrate a single passenger microcar you can be admirable to American cars.

alfaitalia

It's light entertainment...not a proper car show. Just watch it for what it is. US classics are, by and large loved by petrolheads in Europe (UK included..at least for another few months...lol). But new U.S. cars are not...and that's why you hardly export any here. The build quality is ok ..hard plastic dashes aside..but the styling generally does not appeal over here...not that's they are particularly ugly...we just have different views on what a car should look like....which is a good thing imo. That said there are current model Mustangs everywhere...the first generation of that car that ever sold in numbers here. No Dodges are officially imported to the UK...the last one was the Caliber...yuk!

I'm not usually a fan of black wheels, but they do seem to fit the Demon's sinister look. I think they might (?) look a little better on the green one because of its darker color, and my bias in favor of dark green. Haven't seen (or heard) a demon in person yet, but there is one supposed to be delivered here locally near Louisville in southern Indiana that many of us are waiting on. Will this be the Dodge Daytona of 2050-a car of dreams?

Yeah what is up with the black wheels fad; I think they look awful...

J.Bond

Black rims were made for those lazy sum bitcxx's that don't wash or take care of their cars, notice they then wrap, in matte finish, no waxing required..

Back then, if you did not have money. a rattle can of flat black, worked miracles. But, it was what it was, cheap.....

Agree that they routinely bash cars from the USA but there are some parts of that show I used to really enjoy like the celebrities or F1 drivers taking a regular car on a hot lap around the track.   Regarding the little guy, I think he was ok in this vid about a 68 Charger..

If you don't like it...don't watch it...wont stop it (and his new Amazon show...The Grand Tour) being one of the most watched car based shows in the World! I will admit I don't watch many of Top Gear with the new presenter inc your very own Matt Le Blanc....its truly terrible now....very poor standard of presenting (no natural rapport between the 3 new presenters like Jez, James and Richard have)  and just not close to being as funny funny!

Indeed light in the "entertainment" area.

I stopped watching the Hammond/May/Clarkson Top Gear when just about every episode was a variation of  "Clarkson [in a car], Hammond [in a bike or boat] , and May [in some odd contraption] in a contrived race against [skier/runner/climber/cyclist] across the [insert well known city or well known geographical location]...who will get there first??!" Come to think of it, TGUSA and other versions kinda do the same thing.

It's too bad the Demon is offered with the auto trans. only. (This car was made and intended for the 1/4 mile folks).
My interest in buying one of these was nixed when I found that to be the case.

I waited until 09 to get an SRT8 with a man. transmission. (not avaliable for the 08 cars). Then made a move to a Hellcat when I found the right price for a three-pedal car.
Maybe if dodge comes around with a change of mind about how the car changes gears -for the next offering- I will be moved again to play. For now, I'm out.

alfaitalia

I bet the Demon is set up to change ratios , flat out over the quarter, faster than any of us could do it manually!!...as you say it was what the whole car was engineered around.
....but my 69 is a manual!! Three pedals rule!!

No human can outshift a modern automatic. If the lowest ET is the goal, an automatic is the way. I can understand that many people are into driving for the the whole experience so for them, only a manual transmission will do.

I took my Demon to the dragstip a couple of weeks ago. Drove my family there in it, dropped the rear tire pressure a bit, cracked off some 10-second passes at over 130 mph, then drove all of us home in it with the A/C and cruise control on, listening to some sweet tunes on the terrific stereo system. Man, I love that car.

The R/T was only featured on the show. Hammond liked it so much he bought a '69 Charger which was originally a 318 if I remember correctly. After he sold it the car was turned into a GL replica and I very nearly bought from the Chap that did the GL conversion.

Hammond loves his American cars!

Awesome!  That's exactly why Chrysler built them. :2thumbs:
