Im wanting to put a .284 .484 mopar perf. cam hydrolic. in my 69 charger 440. I have a edel.rpm preformer intake. and a 725 demon carb.
Im not to knowledgable on cams, but a friend said that the stock valve springs wouldnt hold up and i would need a adjustable valve train?
Any thoughts on this?
thanks.

:popcrn:   I was told by the machine shop that I hope to have build my 440 that today's cam grinds are so ahead of the Mopar performance purple cam that I shouldn't use the one I bought, maybe he recommended Engle?
I don't know, I await Chrycho's answer or another knowledgable engine guy.   I want to have about that size cam put in.  282,  I will also be having a similar intake, and carb size as you.    Was wondering what pistons you use, forged or cast?  What h.p. range are you estimating you will be in?   Are you going to use headers?     There is a post I read last night, Chryco said he got 525 hp with his custom cam he ordered, and trick heads, on stock intake and exhaust.  Can't remember name of thread exactly.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

Only mopar stuff I use is the mini-starter. I would not use their cams, remember they are building new cars, why would they make the best cams for it. This way they can compare their new "hemi" with a "hot" old mopar with all of their stuff in it. I also seen that they go flat alot.  People here like engle cams, they have been around for a long time too. I used their cam in my oldsmobile engine 21 years ago, it work great and was very well made.

Dodge Freak, just a reminder. The mini starter is just the stock starter from a Dodge Dakota truck with the V-6. I bought mine from the parts store for under $100. Just passing on the info.
If it ain't wide open; it ain't running.        Rule number one in motocross racing: Pin it; row the gear box; and wait until you hit something.     At work my motto is: If you need me, call someone else.

Well then they ripped me off again. I was wondering why it sells for $135.00 at the speed shops and the other ones go for $250-$350 . Thanks for the info.

What year would fit? Or do they all? Any special adapters you need for the mini starter? Thanks

My  318 did not need any, not sure about the others but would think not. Its nice, gives more room by the headers.

the 484 is a decent cam
I have been surprised lately , using the local dyno a lot & the Mopar 484 & 528 solid make some surprisingly strong power #s

Im sory, I did forget the year of the truck. I just told them I needed a starter for a 1996 Dakota. Im sure many of the years are the same. Check it out. My engine builder in Toledo, Ohio told me that one.

there are 2 484 cams available from mopar, one is the old style grind and a newer one with wider lobe seperation angle, supposed to be more streetable-i have one in a box in the garage for my 440,ill let you know what i think soon!

my combo is close, but im using an older torker intake(not the tq2)and ported 906 heads,9 to 1 flat tops and a 750 edelbrock

Java, no special adapters for the mini starters. Just bolt on the cables before you bolt on the starter. They sit on the block side. Impossible to get to when the starter is attached to the block. Looks too close for comfort but it works fine.

BTW you will need new valve springs to match the cam & no you do not Need adjustable rockers , but adjustables are more accurate then the hyd stock rockers so it is an advantage , if you use adjustable rockers I don`t recommend alum for the street , use iron or stainless cast steel [Comp ]
