been driving 4 years now and happened yesterday. Kind of down about it got my first ticket and accident all within a year .  Was driving home from work (in 96 altima ) and i heard a squeal ahead of me but I couldnt tell  how fast everyone was braking ahead of me so I hit the trailer hitch of a Ram Quad Cab (same truck had been thinking about buing all day. Trailer hitch tore right through the center of the front bumper, smashed the radiator support and bent the radiator as well as the hood. It doesn't look too bad but im going to need a new bumper assembly , radiator and support and a new hood with hope that the rest of th e car is fine.  I believe i can do most if not all the work myself as i am in autobody major (graduate after fall). im hoping that the materials will only cost around $500.    When did you get yours and how did it happen?

That sucks.  I never was actually involved in an accident, but my old '69 Charger created its own accident.  I was working on it at the time (when I was about 15-16), had just recently had it running when it just jumped a gear into reverse and nailed my dad's old semi truck that was sitting behind it. (the car was in the garage)  I opened the door and jumped inside to try and hit the brakes in time, but it was too late.  Unfortunately, the rear end wasn't very solid so the impact pretty much messed up what was left back there, so I sold it to someone who I think ended up using it for parts. :'(

When I was 18 or so, I had my '73 Mustang Grande' yet. I just filled up will gas, and when I was ready to leave the pumps, someone parked in front of me so I couldn't get out. So, I had to back up. When I was backing up, a full size Chevy 4x4 pickup came pulling into the gas station behind me, and I never had time to react even though I was barely moving. And I back into the drivers door. Didn't do anything to my car, but it caved in the door on the pickup(could of been popped out by hand). The owner of the truck was ok about it, and we settled on it without the police and insurance company getting involved. I think I paid him like $800. for a new door which he never did buy.

My first one was in '94, in the community college parking lot, while I was driving my mom's '87 Escort GL.  I backed into another car and cost about $300 worth of damages.  2 years later, I drove my '69 Charger off of a freeway on-ramp onto the freeway below, Dukes 'o Hazzard style, and totaled it.  A few years after that, I rear ended someone in my Camaro.  And....about a year after that, I rear ended someone in my Camaro AGAIN...

The 1st one where I was at fault was when I was about 28, I rear-ended a minivan in my K-car. It was snowing heavily & the guy backed out of his driveway, right in front of me...I hit the brakes, but don't think the car slowed more than 2 miles per hour.

Yep, I got the ticket...I hate snow! :icon_smile_angry:

The 1st accident I was involved in at all, was in 1987 (I was 23) when some female rear-ended my Charger with her VW Bug. It knocked out some bondo I didn't know was there in the rear valence & ripped out the corner cap...here's the carnage;

Her car was undriveable & had to be towed away. :icon_smile_approve:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I've been driving since 1979, but didn't get my license until 1980 when I was finally old enough to get one. :D  Never had any major accidents that were my fault, but I sure seem to have a target painted on my vehicles. I've had some close calls & did some dumb stuff over the years where I can't imagine I wasn't in an accident. The only accident I had that I know I screwed up, was when I had my first '69 Charger.

I spun the tires coming out of a parking lot showing off, & when I hit the brakes, that I knew weren't working too well, I didn't slow down. I jumped the curb, ran clear across someone's front lawn, flattened out a shrub, & stopped less than a foot from the corner of the house.   :o  The home owner was cool about it, & all I had to do was give him $30 for his shrub.

I've been hit from behind while waiting for lights or stopped at stop signs more than I can count. Had another drunk moron run a red light & broadside my driver's quarter on my first Charger. I've found countless dents, scratches, dings & scuffed paint from inconsiderate a-holes on just about every car I've owned. The most recent was my new truck too.

The scariest accident I can recall was my friend's Superbird that I put into a guide rail at 50 MPH. I knew it wasn't my fault, but still felt horrible since I was driving it at the time. We found out later that there was a problem with one of the calipers & that's what made the car pull into the guide rail when I hit the brakes. The car is fixed now & I can't wait to see it & take some pics.

At 20 I was in a bad car wreck. Busted up both of my ankles, my right leg, face, etc. Eneded up in a coma for a month. I was partially paralysed in my legs for almost 2 years. Luckily I am about 90% healed now 11 years later.

69bananabeast

I didnt get it bad at all. Happened so fast can't remember .  I just jerked back and forth a little bit. Air bag didn't even deploy since it was a dead center hit , but im really glad it didnt since most people are injured worse by the airbag than the actual accident itself.

Hey sorry to hear of your accident but the important thing is you came out alright. Could of been worse for sure. Hopefully, it all works out in the end and the Nissan serves you a while longer.

A worth while bump.  I thought about opening a newer version of the same topic.

My first one was when I was 3 and it was in an brand new 87 Plymouth Duster.   White with blue interior.  I was sitting in the passenger seat and watch mom push this nice, shiny chrome button on the shifter.  Well, mom pulled into our driveway and had to run inside the house, leaving me in the car all by myself :D  and took the keys with her.  Our driveway ran uphill and the car was parked about 60 ft from the road.  While mom was inside the house, I pushed the chrome button and pulled the shifter all the way into first gear.  The car rolled down the driveway, partially jumped a ditch, and wiped out the driver side mirror on the mail box.  I didn't get in trouble :woohoo:  Been driving ever since :2thumbs:

16 years old. Driving my '91 VW Jetta. Did 3 barrel rolls, 1 end-o, and 1 cartwheel. Every corner was bashed in. Roof was shifted 2' to the pass side, driver seat back was snapped in half, trunk lid got ripped off and thrown into a field by the toolbox turning into a missile, drivers front wheel was tilted 45* out at the top and blew two tires. Car stopped on it's side, I kicked what remained of the front windshield out and walked to a farm down the road to call my dad to bring me two of my winter tires.
Put the tires on, pushed it back on it's wheels and continued to drive it like that for two weeks. Ended up stripping it down. Donated all the bolts to the high school shop (they needed metric stuff), and sold the engine for $200 more than I paid for the car originally.

^ Alright, that is impressive... ^

I was driving my '94 Lumina Z34 to class one morning, stopped at a red light and got rear-ended by a 2000ish Ram.  The ram needed a new grill, bumper, and radiator.  I needed 2 scratches in my bumper repaired.   :nana:

I got very lucky and even made it to class as the prof was shutting the door.  Seeing as I was always 10 min early she asked me why I was "late."

Lol, well like most people today I will blame others for my own stupidity and lack of common sense:

*The accident with the Charger was caused by my slave driver employers making me work a double that day; I think I fell asleep at the wheel.

*The first accident with the Camaro was caused by those hot-dogging F18's showing off over the freeway; they were flying so low, so fast I just HAD to watch them instead of the traffic.

*The 2nd accident with the Camaro was caused by some fool who brake-checked me because I was tail-gating his tail-dragging, broken Hyundai.  Shortly after, I had Hyundai rear end parts in my hair and inside the convertible.

*I blame my parents for being Asian, and therefor making ME Asian in the process.  If they hadn't been Asian, I would be a far better driver and wouldn't have to post in this thread!

I remember it like the first time I....,ahem, I digress.

Summer of 98...had been driving for about 1.5 years at that point. Was driving to the beach with my buddies. We were on Pacific Coast Highway when I may or may not have gotten distracted by the "scenery" when next thing I know, I'm rear ending a small toyota/nissan pickup. No one was hurt, but my 87 Nissan Sentra's front end took a pretty good hit and the truck's rear bumper had to be replaced.

I was 16 and had been driving for 6 months. Had a deer run in front of me, you can guess the rest. Car was my 63 VW Bug, I was able to beat out the trunk / hood decently.

I was 14 coming home from work stoned. Was watching someone else road rage and rear ended a ford Taurus at 35. I thought I was in deep shit but it turned out the people I hit didn't have insurance and my girl friends car did. I went to court and the judge seen how young I was so he delayed my court date so i would be old enough to get my permit and told me I better return with it. I did and the judge dropped everything and threw the book at the people I hit. I had to pay 20 dollars in courts costs.  :2thumbs:

I wasn't there, but the wifey said he was just grinning up a storm. Never knew what he did.

I guess when I was 11.  I was trying to get my grandfather's car to go more than 60 mph down his driveway.  Nothing really damaged, but I did a 4 wheel slide across his back yard.  He came out very quickly and told me to drive in the pasture instead.  First collision?  I was learning how to drive at 15 and some and I drove the VW rabbit into the back of the Charger.  Looked over and asked my dad what to do, and he said "You might want to back up."  Otherwise, only minor fender benders, more in my driveway as a kid, two bumps while driving as an adult.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....
