I came across a local ad and they are selling a part done project for too much money as usually the case
They call the car an SE but said it started out as a 318 car and has the plain dash and regular back seat roll down windows

Description

1973 Dodge Charger SE that is 95% complete. We have done much of the work to complete this restoration but we left some for you. The engine is a 440 Magnum that has been balanced and blueprinted, 727 torqueflite transmission. The front floor still requires work but we have a front floor pan in stock and can make you a deal on it. We also have a spare parts car we will make you a great deal on. Tons of time and money in this car but we are only asking $8500.00 for it. For more details or to make an offer call Frank at 519-661-8694.

I emailed asking about the motor rebuild and how many miles on it now
The rebuild sheet has the motor being rebuilt in 1979 so not very fresh  ;)
I also asked about the car for sale back side windows compared to the last picture of a finished SE

This is the reply I got back

The picture of the completed yellow charger was included just to give people an idea what the car would look like completed and has nothing at all to do with this vehicle. These vehicles came with several different variations in vinyl roofs. Yes this vehicle does have operational quarter windows. Yes this car was originally a 318 car. The reason that it does not have a ralley dash is because it is an SE model not a Ralleye model. The motor work was done with 83761 miles showing on the odometer and it now shows 19275 (119275 miles).

If a customer is serious about buying this car I can supply complete information and a breakdown of the original fender tag and VIN#

We do have what is left of my parents 73 Charger
Our car started out with a 400 , power bulge hood , bucket seats , console and ralleye dash
It was a brown car with a black stripe down the side of the car
No special tags or emblems on the car
Did these options mean it was a ralleye car ?

I'd like to see that! SE is standard with rallye cluster. Just by 73 SEs could be roll down quarter glass and halo top as an option ( not common to see ) instead the standard louvered quarter glass and 3/4 vinyl top. Not anymore on 74

SE VIN begins with WP29

just noticed you posted the ad... is not SE, they never were canopy roof. And even I have read SOME could get standard cluster, I never have seen one. The cluster finish and passenger dash insert tells me is the cheap WL21 althought they never got roll down quarter glass, but a fixed glass with same hardtop look ( glass mounted with a bracket ). Still could get the Rallye package.

Rallye should get Bulged hood, also rallye cluster, rear sway bar, side stripes, etc...

Just looking at the pictures I did not think it was a true SE
I will see if they will tell me first part of VIN

Not sure what all that is as the other pictures make it confusing. You COULD get an SE without the louver windows but it would have a full vinyl top.
And SE's did not have to come with a rallye dash. You could order one without. There was a fellow in my school who had almost the same car as me (my 73 which I bought new) and he had the split bench and non rallye dash with the louver windows. You did NOT have to get the brougham interior.
But again, I'd like to see the vin, I don't think it is an SE either.

70 sublime

Well I asked this

I always thought SE came standard with the ralleye cluster

Does the VIN start with WP29 or WL21 will tell the true story

You are about a 3 hour drive for me one way so want to make sure it is worth a trip or not

And this is the reply I got back

I base my information on decoding the VIN and fender data plates. You can find the information you wish on the internet but short of having a deposit in hand I am not willing to spend hours on the internet researching a car or answering emails. If you are seriously interested make an appointment to see the vehicle. We are open 8 to 5 Monday to Friday.

HA HA HA
Guess what I am no longer interested

And this was my final reply on this Charger for sale ad

Well I guess that answers my question
Not worth the drive because you do not know what you have
For me to waste 6 hours of drive time there and back just to look at VIN not going to happen

You had this in a previous reply

"If a customer is serious about buying this car I can supply complete information and a breakdown of the original fender tag and VIN# "

So I figured you already had this info in front of you which would have made it easy to know what the VIN started with since this is what I asked

Good luck with your sale because I am one less person to sell it to

The canopy vinyl roof is what is on my parents 73 Charger and is what got me curious what this yellow car really was

Rallye cluster IS STANDARD with SEs... diff deal is someone wanted to get it ordered with standard cluster and could do it, but that’s a custom order. I guess even still somebody wanted standard cluster it was woodgrained

Interesting 74 dealership catalog says specifically Standard cluster was not optional for SEs. So maybe was posible just on 73???

as suspected per the trim shown on dash... a WL21 coupe. Rear quarter glas must be fixed ones, non roll down, and THEORICALLY upper door panels on full interior color without woodgrain insert on them
