I have a 440 that needs bored 60 and ive herd about over heating and other problems is there anyone who have a engine bored 60 or know anything about it.thanks

It seems like alot of people do it now, but back in the 80s all the mags like hot rod, car craft always said don't go over .030 or the engine will not make as much power, something about the rings not seating right. There used to be alot more engines to pick from then. Now  they are   running out so people do it. This was asked a few weeks ago and most said its ok. If you can find a different block that needs only .030 maybe it be better. You did not say what year it is, something like after 1975 the blocks had "softer" iron somebody said. Sonic testing they spoke about, sometimes its good to have a # matching car, people will pay more for it.

before i went .060 over id get the block sonic checked.    it would suck to spend all that money and find out .60 didnt work.

what is sonic checking is that magnufluxing

sonic checking measures the wall thickness , I know of some blocks that were too thin at stock bore & never should have left the factory , I also know of blocks with over .300 wall thickness that could easily take .150 overbore

Well...I, myself, if found in that situation of having to bore .060 over,  I would go with a re-sleeve.  Some people prefer to do this...the ones that are real sticklers for factory correctness  (i.e.  bore size....etc.)  especially if they have a numbers matching car.  I realize the bore is not visible as far as that goes, but I've run across some really anal people pertaining to that issue.   I've heard stories that there were no problems from an RB engine bored .060...and I've heard stories of  .060 over causing overheating and on a couple of occasions...even a cracked cylinder wall.   But the literature  that has been posted in this topic is very informative  and it looks like there has been some concrete research done.   It all boils down to what makes you feel more at ease when building that engine.

Very good link lotsa info. My 383 is bored 60 over the only down side was new pistons ouch. Bottom line as long as a good machine shop is doing the work you should be fine.
