383 crank in 440???

Hello all! I am new to the Mopar world and would love some input! I have a383, but I just picked up a 440, can I use the crank from the 383 in the 440?

Troy

The 383 has a shorter stroke (shorter deck height) with smaller mains. You can turn down the 440 mains to fit in a 383/400 block (low buck stroker) but going the other way seems like it would be a lot of work for negative improvement. Basically you'd need longer rods which is kind of backwards.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Thank you so much for the reply! I'll be looking to get a 440 crank.

Maybe if the mains were the same size dould be used for a "distroker"? To lower the compresion for turbocharged setups... but actually is not posible due the 383 mains being smaller.

There used to be spacers available for installing a B crank in an RB block but I haven't seen them in recent years. However, they're still available for the small block.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

What would be the advantage? Like the 383 to 440, the 340 has a shorter stroke than a 360. However, I'm reasonably sure you can buy after market cranks with the smaller journal (at least I remember that while researching my 5.9 Magnum) so I can see the benefit of less friction at the bearing *WITH* a longer stroke. Just curious what the benefit might be if someone were to actually use a factory crank.

Shorter strokes are a NASCAR thing.

as I mentioned, and as you know, not being an expert, just a thought, shorter stroke to get less CR for turbo applications I think
