Fuel problems

Hi, I own a 76 Cordoba, As a 400, put a Elderbrook intake on in, Elderbrook 600 performance carb, manual choke on it, after sitting for a week, the fuel drains from the fuel line, I have to pump the it a lot of it to start, I put in a new fuel pump in it, new Carb. I Can see the fuel filter is dry after a week, all the fuel lines have been replace, except the one form the fuel pump to the gas tank. I don't see any gas leaks or smell any. Any help would be great. Thanks

Is it an electric or a mechanical fuel pump?

Mechanical.

My first guess would be to double check the length of the fuel pump push rod.

Reproduction rods are made of softer steel, and will "mushroom", and shorten the rod as the engine runs, which will cause less fuel pressure. Eventually it will mushroom so bad, it can't be removed from the block without major disassembly.

If everything else is new, that would be the next thing I checked.

Fuel pump pushrod will have no effect on fuel disapearing after sitting. It sounds like the fuel is evaporating after sitting. There is nothing economical to do to prevent this from happening. It is essentially a normal problem.

There has been previous threads about this. Seems to be a common thing with the Edelbrocks. I've had an Edelbrock on my 72 Charger since 2001 and have the same problem. My 68 Charger has a Proform carb and has the same problem but not as bad. Some say the evaporation is partly caused by the alcohol in the gas.
