Never thought I'd say "cool ford" but this one just popped up on the local clist.
Pretty neat and original car.

Never liked that body style or any 64-67 Mopars. IMO

Homerr

Seems like a cool car and a money pit.

That Ford 390 motor was a hot son-of-a-bitch stock motor.  Tons of torque.  :2thumbs:

Ford did make some cool stuff but by far, their styling and engineering sucked ass.
How about that one car with the rear window that was almost vertical....The one that rolled up and down like a side window? Was that a Monterey?

They clearly did not have anything else to hand except a straight ruler in the studio when they designed that! Not a curve on it!

& for the most part - 390s are SLUGS!!  :eek2:

couldn't hold its own against a 383, unless the Mopar was tied to a tree  :icon_smile_big:

I agree, Chrysler's styling was much better around that time.    :smilielol:

Most Ford engines didn't have enough power to pull the skin off of rice pudding  ;D

I've had Boss Mustangs.....a Swinger or Duster 340 would dust them all day.

Cool that granny had a 4-speed!

Not the 390s that I was around in during the 70s.  A friend's Torino and another's Ranchero hauled ass with 390s.  I believe they were stock, nothing modified.

The killer 390 app that I personally drove (learned to drive in) was a 1970 Ford LTD Country Squire Wagon.  Yeah it was my mom's.

It was a beautiful monkey shit brown color.  That motor was a stocker, and more than held its own against BB Chevys and Mopars, even in a wagon stuffed with 14 passengers.  My experience is that it was a hugely underrated motor.  Maybe I just got lucky to drive those when they hit a peak of performance.  The 390s of the mid and late 70s were horrible, like every other smoged and de-tuned Detroit engine.

Haven't driven a Ford since, hate them.  Mopar or No Car.

'64 Marauders are pretty bitchin in my opinion.   They made a great stock car as well.

F8-4life

Maybe I'm dreaming but thinking like 3k buy in, throw a tune up on it and cruise!

440

The Ford 400 of the mid 70's were way underated too. Granted they have their problems and were smogged up but they asked a lot of the small block, it was a replacement for the phasing out the big blocks in Ford trucks. When allowed to breathe properly they really haul !!

You don't buy a car like that for performance anyways, you buy it to cruise.

Just to clarify.....

You're saying your mom's station wagon with a 390 and 14 people in it "held its own" against 396/454 Chevelles and 383/440 RRs/SBs/GTXs/RTs?

By "held its own" do you mean it held its own side of the road as they passed you or ???

If you had or knew fast 390 Fords they were either rebadged 428CJs or factory mistakes.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

That car is UAF and 390,s are turds. The people that like these types of cars are the same people that love to give fat women lovin  :D

Wow the haters on 390s.  It was an outstanding motor in 70.

Of course I exaggerate, the wagon was empty, there wasn't 14 of anyone in it.

What seems to me to be over-rated is the stock 396.  They were boat anchors without add-ons.

Umm....FYI, the Ford 400 of the 70's was a big block... So was the 351M, 390 and 352.

Since when were the 351/400M classified as big blocks? They are part of the 335 family while the 390 was from the FE family.

Wasn't it the tv show Hawaii 5'o (the original) that used a black one of these on the show too?
