Cross posting this from FBBO...

Never messed with a slap stik before, just picked one up for my project.

This shifter is apparently missing an insert/plug which looks like it would press-fit into the opening in the housing and stabilize the shifter handle?

Can anyone tell me more about this missing piece?

Seems like it would be simple enough to machine something up, just want to make sure there's not something I'm missing design-wise.

Thanks in advance.

I just went and looked at the one I'm getting ready to put in my '74 SE.   Yes, it's a bit rusty and crusty still..  I'll fix that soon.

Mine does not have that recess/opening at all.  Both sides of the mechanism are solid with a hole for the pivot shaft which is fitted in place before the two halves are riveted together.

Yes, exactly... the pivot shaft is missing on this one. Good term for it.

So it looks like the pivot shaft will have to be fabbed up. I found a pic on the auction site that has the shifter(s) apart, which gives me a better idea of how to proceed.

Thanks Gold Rush!  :2thumbs:
