Can someone please tell me what the correct heater hose fittings are for a '69 Charger 440 AT - No AC?

Are they different between an AC car and a non-AC car?

I see 3 holes on the water pump housing.

One hose fitting is 5/8" into a 1/2" thread and two are 1/2" hose into a 3/8" thread.

What are the proper sizes of the heater hoses for a car w/o AC?

Attached is a picture of a water pump housing from a '68 440 w/ AC.

You can see one has a rusted heater hose fitting, another has a pipe plug and the other is clean.  You will also notice the mounting bolt broken off.  Should be a great weekend.   ::)

Mike, for 69 both hoses are 5/8" as well as the fittings (starting in 70 there was one 5/8" hose & one ½" hose)
One is short, the other tall. (fittings)
The hole that is plugged is not used(leave it there)

A/C & non-A/C are the same

Have fun getting that other fitting out :rotz:

Thanks Chris.

I was hoping you would offer some feedback.

I am picking up the/some heater hose fittings from Car Quest in the AM on my way to the farm.

Are they not a somewhat universal part?  I realzied Bill had them and I also knew MP and YO sell them so I figured they were pretty common.  I hope I get the correct ones tomorow.  I really hope so becasue Bill is shipping my order for a bunch of other stuff out in the AM.  If I don't get the right ones I will have to make a quick call to Bill to see if I can get him to ship a pair of those as well.

Didn't you utilize the third port with an electronic temperature sensor?

Thanks again.

Yes, I have a 68 440 engine that has a stock two prong electrical sensor that there would normally be a plug.
I don't seem to have a picture of it, but if you need it let me know.

Yeah Mike I do have a "stealth" sensor threaded into that extra hole.......I told ya not to tell anyone! ;) ;)

The factory sensor hole is the small forward facing one.

If you have an order with Bill, I would add the fittings as well as the "correct" hoses & clamps onto the order.

Getting generic Gates hoses is fine but once you see the numbered hoses on a few cars at shows, you will want those.

I spent money 3 x on hoses........one set of Gates stuff......then the Mopar labled hose....then the "correct" part # ribbed hose.

Do it the first time.....

Just my 2 pennies worth.

Those heater hose fittings were a pain to find out here in San Diego...

Well I caught Bill just in time Saturday AM for him to get the heater hose fittings in with my other stuff.  The Car Quest ones were not even close.

I will most likely order the proper hoses from him in the future, but for now the ones that are with the car will do.  I am a long ways away from this car seeing the road.

Meanwhile, we got the water pump housing looking resepctable again.  Took some effort but we got the rusted hose fitting out, drilled out the broken stud and re-tapped it.  After some sandbalsting and a coat of paint, it's ready for the new water pump to be installed.

Also painted the pulley, fan & alternator brackets black as advised.

Thanks again to all the folks here that pointed us in the right direction.
