Sounds good. At least you know it won't turn into a jump car like that poor 69 R/T 4 spd did.

Jim Curnane

Found the broadcast sheet under the back seat does anyone have any suggestions on how to straighten it out its kind of crumpled up from being in between the springs

Beautifull car. . . I love the signature of the King on it. Thats my favorite part.

That's a very nice ride- I like the third gens a lot myself, and that looks to be an excellent example! The white books show 3,431 '72 Rallyes being built, but it doesn't break out the engine production numbers for the Rallye cars, which you could get a 340, 400, or 440 in. The total production numbers for 'P' coded '72 Charger hardtops was 2,025, with 1,777 of them being automatics. Obviously the number of Rallye cars with 400 autos would be a subset of that, but I can't tell you any closer with this book anyway how many were built like yours. Maybe someone else here has more complete numbers than these. Either way, that car's definitely a keeper!  :2thumbs:

Awsome 1,777 is a low prodution number to start with . I dont see many 72 rallyes out there I guess once I find out how many there were then I might be able to take it a step further with the options and color. Is it possible to go that far with mopars ???

Those numbers are accurate (at least as far as I have documentation on).  I could break it down further with your rear end size/ratio.

That is one nice score, Jim... Congrats!  I see you have the ultra rare coolant recovery system in place.  Take good care of it because they are IMPOSSIBLE to find - 1 year only components.  I have a '72 Rallye as well (click on the link in my sig) and I love it - my dream combination!

Feel free to ask more questions if you have 'em.

Enjoy!
Bob

Hi Bob Thank you very much!   The rear end size is 8 3/4 the ratio is 355s. Bob where is the coolent recovery system your talking about  ??? Thanks Jim

Be VERY careful.. If you have a good digital camera, I would take a closeup picture of it prior to attempting to remove. Also, go get one of the clear plastic/vinyl folders to place it in for  protection...

I allready took it out I could put it back and take a picture if you think its imporant it came out pretty easy all you have to do is lift the springs it came right out.
Troy do you agree with ironing it?

Hardtop production of 400 4bbl, auto w/3.55:1 Sure Grip (Code D56) is 83. The coolant recovery system is the plastic bottle (and 3 brackets - 2 upper, 1 lower) mounted next to the battery.  Very rare option... but a good one!

:2thumbs:

Jim Curnane

Holy cow what is the sure grip I have the slapstick shifter auto on the console ? I take it this does not account for the rallye package and the color ???

1972Rallye

Sure Grip is Mopar's version of a "Posi"... in short, both rear wheels are engaged under load/power conditions. Very good!

The number does not specify Rallye or color options, just the number of hardtops made with that particular drivetrain.  Unfortunately, that as about as good a break-down as you'll get.  In the real world, you can assume 99% - 100% of those 83 were Rallye cars...

No way! it's like antique furniture and what happens if you burn it, leave it be man, leave it be.  I do a lot of medal mounting for my military buddies and i always iron the medals before i remount them, one time i used paper to set them on so i wouldn't burn the counter and the paper crinkled up like  HLPAG charger in a fender bender (mine ain't perfect but it is in a doc protector and that's where it will stay til i die(might frame it though)  How about a pic of that build sheet though??

You're build sheet is in great shape and yes, that's the place.  The pink box above the 56 used to read:

Man that build sheet is in great shape,  I can't even find one in my cars.

It would be more correct to say your engine is mostly all original components, but refurbished / repainted.

The paint code and build date are on the build sheet AND the fender tag.  In your case, the build date is 515 (May 15, 1972) and paint code is FE5. Your vinyl top code is V4X (black canopy).  There is a wealth of info on the build sheet, so treat it like a cherished document.  Since your car is a Lynch Rd. vehicle (7th VIN digit is an "A"), option info on the fender tag will be minimal.  I've attched a copy of mine to show you where the main items are...

The intake shouldn't be too hard... check out e-bay.  There are at least a couple each month there - just watch the prices (they'll range from $35 - $150).  If you can find one with a casting date close to your engine block casting date, you'll be better off.

Hope this helps,
Bob
