Alternator woes

Well I have had ok luck with the powermaster 1 wire alternator I have been running on my charger for about 6 years now. The little regulator is mounted on the alternator itself and the first one went bad and was draining the battery. Got that regulator replaced and just over the weekend I noticed my voltmeter was reading low at times so I checked it when I got home and it was not charging at times so i'm taking it back to my alternator guy for another checking and most likely another new regulator.

What is other's thought's on the best one wire alternator? I went this route because the external regulators that I bought were junk from china and didn't last no time and one shorted out and burnt my 12 volt feed wire up all the way back to the ignition switch. Repaired the wiring and went with this one wire alternator to make things simple to work with and put a big maxi fuse on my battery voltage wire to keep anything from burning up if something shorted out again which I have had no problems there.

The only other option is going to a GM one wire which I know are good alternators but I hate to put a GM part on my mopar!!! Maybe I will just buy an extra regulator so next time I can just swap it out myself.  Any suggestions??

Make sure the maxi fuse does not have a break in it, have seen it many times, will make intermittent connection , charge, not charge

I don't think you'll like my suggestion noticing you are toward to "one wire" alts LOL

Took it by my alternator guy this morning and he tested it and it was charging but he let it run for about 15 seconds and checked it again and it flaked. He said either the stator may be bad or the regulator is bad. I will check that fuse and holder but i'm pretty sure the alternator is at fault tho. It's really not a big deal and it's been working great for over a year now so if this is my only set back then I can deal. I may just get my alternator guy to get me an extra regulator since it looks really easy to replace if this happens again.

LOL, just trying to simplify the system. Went through several single field regulators and was tired of swapping regulators and I didn't want to go to the double field regulator even tho they are really good but wouldn't look right for a pre-70 model. The alternator has been working great until last weekend and then it was just back and forth charging and not charging. Hopefully my alternator guy will get it fixed up and I can get it back on tomorrow or thursday and see how it goes from there.

Ive had great luck with mine, it really solved a lot of issues I had.  I run a wire right to the battery, I also changed the entire harness to a painless.  I dunno how long they are suppose to last but I think it went prematurely.  keep us updated.

Was hoping to hear from my guy today but never did hear anything. The alternator itself seems to be good it's just that tiny regulator that seems to give trouble. The one that came on the alternator went out and was draining the battery last year and this year this one just seems to be charging erratically. Had a jeep to work on this evening anyway but maybe he will have it ready tomorrow....

where are you getting that replacement reg? Powermaster ?

I know quickstart sell those.

wondering if ALL those comes from same manufacturer. I don't think they are being made for several manufacturers

The regulator that came on the alternator was a regitar brand or something like that. I am not sure what brand my alternator guy uses but it's not the same as the one that came on it.

Got the alternator back yesterday but didn't get it put back on until today. Drove it around the block and all seems to be well once again, it's charging good and back to normal on my gauge so maybe that will be good for awhile. I'm thinking of getting an extra regulator so I can just swap it out myself next time instead of having to wait for my guy to swap it out for me.
