Local hoarder selling out.

This guy was known locally and used to help put on the local Friday car cruise until he had a bunch of medical problems the other year.

Couple weeks ago trucks pulled up to one of his stashes and took a bunch away...      This auction says 21....   there should be another 19 somewhere.

FWIW he hardly ever took any of them out.   They sat in his building collecting dust,  dead batteries and cruddy fuel systems for the most part.   Last time he had any of the mopars out was at least 3 or 4 years ago.   Kinda sad really.

Shoot, man...I'd gladly take that B-5 Challenger T/A or the FC-7 AAR Cuda!

That's some collection.

Although I am amazed that it's not an auction for a bunch slant six cars or 1950's four doors or even old worn out trucks with rodents & rotted frame rails like most of the other "collections" we see.

Aint that the truth, we get more than a few leads each year on collections for auction and each time they turn out to be a collection of rotted four door parts cars.  Just because its old doesn't mean its valuable.

WOW!! What a great collection, and in such nice condition! Mr. Kingston has great taste.
And I love the socks on the pedals.

There isn't a single one of those cars I wouldn't love to own.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

John_Kunkel

That guy had great taste; not a car there I wouldn't lust for (except maybe the '55 Chevy gasser).
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Agreed. In my opinion a Challenger T/A B5 blue with blue interior is one of the sharpest cars ever made.  The 4spd is just icing on the cake.

I was lucky enough to see this collection up close a few years back. Real down to Earth guy.
Lusted after a lot of those cars, but he would never sell.
Hoping he is selling because his tastes have changed, and not for any serious health reasons.

Serious health reasons.    He hasn't been well for quite awhile.   Selling his quarry business also.

I've seen them all and they are all very very nice.    But only one I'd really want is the 'Bird - and I'm not in any position to even bother bidding.    I'm not a E-body guy nor really care about the rest.

Last couple days I've just been hearing conflicting stories about his physical health,  financial health and the $$$$ that this collection was supposedly sold directly to Mecum for which is now much lower than what the figures were (6 vs 7 figures) when we here in the area were lead to believe in the first place.

We in the area always appreciated what he did for the car scene in and around the Kingston NY area.    After he fell ill, he started saying things that were out of character...  perhaps it was meds,  perhaps it was his true nature.  I'm not really sure.    But I wish him well.   :2thumbs:

Brian, what the heck are you trying to say? You dance around the subject without giving any specifics just like a Politician!
Is the guy going crazy? Is he three days from the grave? Was the collection sold for pennies on the dollar?

I haven't spoken to him in over a year so I don't know all the FACTs.     He didn't look good but that doesn't mean he's dying now.   He might be in debt big time... selling his business with or without equipment.       Originally when the trucks showed up a few weeks ago I had heard he sold them all for many millions.   Most likely the figure is somewhere under $ 1 million.      When he would attend cars shows in years past,  he would get friends to drive them there and back and one time it was advertised as his $2M collection.

Otherwise,  it was rumored he had a hard time retaining employees because he was a dick  :shruggy:  That seemed out of character to me, but I never worked for him.   The last few times I had seen him he started spouting off about the local car crowd after he had decided not to host the Friday cruises anymore due to his declining health.    :Twocents:

Thank you. I now realize that you were probably trying to be respectful and to NOT talk shit like I often do. Sorry for being impatient with you.   :2thumbs:

Well as usually happens there are plenty of rumors spreading around on a deal like this and I'll try not to add to the rumors and only state facts. My best friend knows the guy well. He sold him the purple AAR several years ago. I built all the mechanicles for the car and did a lot of the detail work. I know the car from the ground up. It won several shows and it's class at the Mopar  Nats. It is nice. Alan is a great painter and he had a superb body man do all the metal work. It's not as fast as mine,😉 but that's another story.  He even flew a couple of places to inspect cars for this guy down in the south before he bought them. Alan says he's a nice guy. I would not call him a hoarder, though. His business did well and he bought nice cars. Like most people with too many toys, you can't use them all. They can be investments and you just take care of them. I'm in the same boat only with nice project cars. As far as his health is concerned, it's fine as of today. I can't speak for the past. I can't really give any more details, even though I know the whole story. When circumstances in life or business change, you sometimes have to do things you'd rather not do just to live and fight another day. The main thing one needs to remember in a deal like this is to not be to quick to judge a fellow because things can happen to ANY one of us and we might be in a tight spot as well. I doubt he would tell us all his personal business descions and I imagine the stress of loosing all your collection would be hard.
The one that gains to profit on all of this is not him but the Mecoms. I think he should have consigned the whole lot, not sell them. I would hate to be bidding on a car that belong to the auction house that was selling it. I would think the chances of shill bidding would be easy to get away with. All those guys in the back of the room on phones to "bidders"? Yea, right.
