I'm sure you are right when you say it was a a chance robbery and they got lucky.........but being the deeply skeptical bloke I am, I would be looking long and hard at anyone I knew who new I was travelling with a large amount of bangers. Hmmm....!

yeah that's true .... makes you wonder ... not necessarily   the guys you know , but friends of friends that might of been talking about it , & some shady low life  guys known to them or over heard it / have been listening etc ,

How did you wind up stopping at a rest area if you had just gotten gas?     Usually, after I get gas, I'm ready to go for a while.

Where does one keep 200 one hundred dollar bills secure on their person?      That is more than normal walking around money.

Not being critical.   Just trying to understand.

He said that he thought someone was hurt so he stopped.

Luke

Yes, I got that.      But how does he wind up stopped at the rest area after just getting gas?    Did someone approach him as the gas station?

Wife and I drove from Vegas to Cabo. Camped all over Baja, slept on Baja beaches, hung with the federales, hit all sorts of checkpoints and all the time had $1,000 US hidden all over the truck. Never a hitch. THIS kind of shit goes down on our soil. Let it be a warning to everyone. NEVER let your guard down. Hell, I won't even eat in a restaurant with my back to the door anymore!

So if your truck is stolen, the result is the same.  never put all your eggs in one basket, without you protecting the nest. :brickwall:

That sucks, glad to hear you are ok though.

20K in cash and you did not have a Gun with you ?

The last time I carried cash on me to buy a car was with a gun. I took 16k in cash and my carry 1911 with 4 mags if .45acp. If someone wants my hard earned cash they have another thing coming.

OP I'm so sorry for your losses. Losing the cash and the car isn't something I'd ever want to imagine.

:rotz:  low life pieces of shit.
I almost always carry cash to buy a car and wounder if the empty car trailer is something that catches the attention of these sorts of people.

I hadn't honestly ever thought of that but it makes perfect sense. The odds of someone having cash probably do go up if they have either just unloaded a car trailer or are on the way to load one up. I bought a car in Long Island NY once. I didn't take cash. Turns out, my bank doesn't have branches in NY either so that was all sorts of fun. The cash would have been a whole lot easier to hide than the car though!

The whole situation sucks. Sorry it happened!

Man, that really sucks to hear.  :icon_smile_angry:

There's been a few times when I was suddenly in a situation where you should stop to help somebody or do something, but then after the fact realize if it was a setup I'd have been had.  Carrying isn't the end all be all either, there's a million scenarios that could happen.   Not as easy to do either when you're travelling through states that have different laws or don't honor your permit.

That's why the American Red Cross includes gun training in their CPR classes now. At first it was only a 3d World thing. Their slogan, "Take a Life to Save a Life," even had its own wristband. Thanks Lance.

Sorry to hear this man. Glad your ok. But you did make some mistakes. I've been lucky but I keep a sharp eye out at all times. I carry ALL THE TIME. Concealed.  I interupted a buglar at one of my rentals before he could make an entry. The cops let him off since he had not gotten in. It was noon. He came back afterward with a baseball bat and chased me inside the house. He was a 25 year old marshall arts trained punk. I pulled my 1911 and decided he did not want to play with me anymore! Face it, to a young punk, we are easy victims. My Colt saved my life. You should have seen his eyes when he saw the hole in the end of my .45! He ran away very fast. My point is, I was watching out for him and he charged me when I went out the front door to get a tool from the truck. Never let your guard down.

Isn't that a sad state of affair's. Too scared to travel alone in your own country. I can honestly say there is nowhere I know of I would not go alone in the UK....in the daytime at least. And no one is armed (firearms at least!!!) here of course. All a bit frightening looking in as an outsider. But if you guys like its as it is...its your country I guess.

Just ask all those truck drivers that are being attacked by illegal immigrants and getting no protection from the government/law.

I had my truck and trailer they were in a sporty small car. Ran around for an hr trying to find them, gone. Cops took another hour to get there. I only posted this as a warning for others. I wasn't going to but thought ide share to make others aware

Your early post in the thread said they were in a car like a Camry?   Your follow up calls it a sporty small car.  I find this odd.  Most car guys I know would not confuse the two.

When you got jumped, what happened to your dog in all this mess?

I never said the UK was fantastic at all..why do you guys insist on taking what I say and twisting it. We have a lot of problems..and I feel that Brexit (the worst political decision in my life imo) will only make things much worse both politically and financially. All I said was that it's sad that you don't want to go somewhere alone for fear of been robbed at gun point.....surely any normal person would agree with that! Cbrestorations could have be killed..just for a few dollars. The British lorry drivers being attacked are on the other side of the Channel in France...nothing to do with us.. and French police are armed (unlike here) and I'm sure are doing their best with limited resources.

And as for the idiot cdr....well what can I say. Calling members names like a spoilt kid every time you hear something you don't like about your country ..it's far from perfect too you know...like most counties I guess. I'd love to know if you would  be man enough to do it to my face.....? Easy to be the big man online. Patriotism is great...being deaf to anyone else's opinion of your country (like N Korea is now) causes big problems.

I'm outspoken, read a lot and have an opinion on most things. Obviously a small number of you cant handle that. (Sorry to those that pm me support). So although I've said it before and then found it impossible to resist.... I won't be posting on any post vaguely political. Happy cdr!?

Haa haa....that's the German/French ladies not the Brits....our ladies are well shaved!!....you guys do like to confuse us with the mainland European lot....we are a very different species. The rest I cant comment on ....due to being or political nature! Suffice to say that our cops don't have guns because they don't want them. They get a chance to vote on it every few years and always vote no....and the public don't want them to carry either (at least not routinely....we do have armed response officers for emergency use)) as only a relatively tiny number of illegal firearms exist in this country so there's not a lot to protect us from.......Ive never seen a real handgun in real life....just on the TV! I would consider what I've just said to just be a statement of facts rather than a comment of a political nature!!! LOL! :icon_smile_big:
