"exact replica" other than one significant detail.

The guys live just outside the Bay area of California.

Driving around with a rebel flag there is probably like driving around with an American flag in ISIS controlled territory. :icon_smile_big:

The thought is a great one.

But it doesn't look right without the Battle flag on top.  Should have just made it a General Grant.

Cool story with the brother getting him the car.

Sooner or later Warner Bros will probably convert the 'official' GL appearance to the stars & stripes on top.  Probably just a matter of time.

If "LEE" has to come off the roof then I would rather it read THE GENERAL.  It beats GENERAL GRANT and it's what the TV characters usually called the car anyway.

I live near baltimore city, you know, that great town that was on the news a while back? I have NEVER had a complaint about the flag on my roof by anyone of any race that was not white. Everyone wants their picture with it. Those who complain are of the snowflake realm and have nothing better to do besides cry for attention.

Cool story! Was that 2015 when the Confederate Flag hell began? I went to a local car show where a guy from Colorado Springs had entered his General. I asked cops that I knew working the show, if anyone bitched about the flag? Police told me "Nope and nobody's touching that Charger as long as we're here."  :2thumbs:  I later met the GL owner and he is Hispanic. GL owner told me that he just loves the show and the car. Nobody gave him hell over his flag and I'm glad to hear that.

Not a general Lee without the flag, only panzies run without it

I agree but the young guy must have a tough enough life without a displaying a flag (rightly or wrongly now.....but definitely historically ) associated with treason, racism, slavery, segregation, and white supremacy. I can understand why his brother built the car without it if he had plans to give it away. You must be proud of the stars and stripes too though so go with it!!!

That guy is my neighbor. Cool brother. He's been working on the car for years.

How can you say that he is a panzy for choosing not display a flag that for many is a symbol of white supremacy, black oppression and slavery? I would say he is quite the opposite and I salute the idea of replacing it with the US flag instead.

Jesus... ::)

Another useful idiot in our midst.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

How does that square with the USA's crimes against Native Americans in the 1800s?  Or the Japanese citizens we put into camps during WWII?  Or the American blacks who lived in the northern states under Jim Crow laws?  Or innocent middle-eastern people being drone-striked by the USA today?  The rebel flag isn't the only one with blood on it.

People fly a lot of flags for a lot of reasons.  Some are racist, some are not.

Besides, GL replicas are copies of a 35yo Hollywood car.  Cut it some slack.  If this is supposed to be a modern version of a street legal dirt-track racer then it wouldn't be made out of a 50yo classic car to begin with.

I've thought ever since the 1990s that the rebel flag on top of the GL was a ticking timebomb.  The flag is losing its acceptability steadily over time.   (I'm not saying that it's right or wrong, I'm just saying that it's happening.)

I suspect the flag would already have stopped being socially acceptable years ago if there was any suitable replacement for it (for the non-racist people's purposes).  But the rebel flag is pretty much the only widely-recognized southern/rural symbol.

I was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area and always had confederate flags of some sort on my cars whether license plates or stickers etc and never really had a problem with anyone. I got more thumbs up then anything.

The only time I ever had a problem was when the HR lady at my job eventually took offence and since the lot was private property I had to either park in the street or cover it up. I made a sign that said "Have a nice day" with a picture of a cartoon donkey underneath.

I moved out of the area about 8 years ago before the stuff hit the fan but if I were still there I'd still stand up for myself. My only concern would be damage to property as in broken windows and keyed paint.

I agree the American flag on the roof is bending over for the politically correct which is sad but it's a cool story nonetheless.

Even here in Australia I still have flag stickers on my back windows.

JB400

The way I see it, is the car is part of the show and the show wasn't racist.  Mississippi has the battle flag on it, and I don't see every person from Mississippi as racist.  Are there racist people in Mississippi, I'm sure there is; but if some stranger walked up to me and said they're from Mississippi, I wouldn't think they're racist unless they said so or acted like it.

Enjoy the car as if you were enjoying the show. :Twocents:

Fuck yeah....bowing to the irrational cries from whiny jerkoffs is pointless. Giving in to keep the peace isn't enough for them, they will always want more. Better to stick to your guns and have some self respect.

I see what you are saying.....but!. If the GL has a Swastika on the roof....another white power/racist symbol...would that be OK...I think not! Just because we are used to seeing the flag on the car does not necessarily make it right. On the other hand it is just a flag.......having it does not means you believe in what it stands for...hopefully you don't! The more I think about this more I'm having doubts one way or the other...the good side of debate i guess.

I thought you were out of this topic?

alfaitalia

True....in fact  a while back I said I would not comment on any vaguely political posts due to certain folks on here not liking anyone's view that did not line up with their own!!! Posts deleted and I'm gone! :2thumbs:
