Here you go. I probably overpaid at $3100, but it was a "bring back" from this guy's grandfather who fought in a France. Came with his matching belt, helmet, canteen, ammo pouch, shovel, and holster. Plus the certificate from Colt Arms. And I really wanted it.

On a side note, why would a person get rid of a family heirloom like that? I don't get it, but it's nice to see that it went to someone who values it much more than the last guy.

Family heirlooms don't seem to mean much anymore.  Most of the following generations are just waiting to cash in.....

Nice acquisition; you got a great deal!!! We've each been wanting a new Colt 1911. No longer making them since Colt went toes up and Chez bought them. Sad day.

A friend's dad had been a Navy pilot in WW II. When he returned home he brought his 1911 and M1 Carbine. Around 1953, we used to play with them and I remember laughing at the fact that his 1911 was made by Singer Sewing Machine Company.

His son had the last laugh, the Singer 1911's are some of the rarest, most sought after WW II 1911's and the most valuable. Several years ago they were going for $40,000.00 . . . . when you could find one. Hang onto your treasure, it's a historical artifact.

Thanks! Yeah, it is quite interesting, all of the companies that stopped producing their normal products to pitch in for the war efforts and produce guns, ammo, etc. Smith-Corona making 1903 Springfields,  International Harvestor making M1 Garands, etc.

We doubt there would be that kind of Patriotism these days. There's no one left in this country that produces anything. We'd have to rely on China to supply us with the war material we'd need to fight them in WW III; Duh !!!

I think we've boxed ourselves into a corner.
