New Hayden fan clutch yesterday. Exploded fan clutch today.

Installed a new HAYDEN 2947 Heavy Duty Thermal Fan Clutch yesterday, and today, the center shot out into my radiator, oil everywhere, but no coolant.  Walked home to get tools and the original fan.  I unbolted the radiator to lift it up with the center section so as not to grind it against the fins and tubes while I pulled it out.

Glad everything seems to be ok with the radiator... I would contact Hayden... That's no "user error"...

AW CRAP!!! Now I'm glad I'm stuck running a solid mounted fan. Can you figure out why it fell apart?

JR

That is a bummer. I've never seen that happen before.

Are you going to replace it with another clutch fan?

Fool me once...

I'm sure I will. Looks like the center is crimped with an o-ring under it. The center falls right in place. Was the oil the only thing holding it on? Box says made in America, too. I was expecting to see China on the box.

Sure is fun getting to those bolts, huh?
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

:o I find this quite alarming as I have one of those clutches ready to go (OR NOT) on my car if/when the Jag-type fails.  :eek2:

Are you sure you installed it right side up.  :scratchchin:
Just kidding, that really does suck. Made in China ?
Glad the radiator survived.

Sorry to disillusion you guys but the "cheap quality, high profit margin" ethos is rife World wide....be it China, the USA, my own Great Britain...anywhere. There ARE quality parts out their...even from China (several factory parts on my Merc ive noticed are from the far East)....but its knowing the go0d from the crap manufacturers.

That said no matter how good a company is, anyone can make a duff part...hopefully it was just a rogue one that slipped through Quality Control.
